Re: Status of this Web site

I keep checking on the site from time to time, but very little activity now.

I still have a 5x4 camera, but decreasing amount of free time and increasing cost of film and chemicals means I haven't used it in over a year.

Re: WTS: Razzle dual focus polaroid 5x4 conversion.

Sadly Dean passed away earlier this year.

I've also got one of his conversions I bought via this board a few years ago - very similar to yours, but mine has the original Rodenstock 127mm lens fitted.

Great camera and a superb, fast option for hand-held shooting.

Free to a good home - two enlargers

I'm having a tidy up and have faced the realisation that I will never be able to set up a darkroom, so have two enlargers free to someone who can make use of them. One is a very nice Durst A600 autofocus which will print up to 6x7cm negs. Black and white condenser enlarger with very good Rodenstock ...

Re: Polaroid conversions?

Hi Chris I have a Razzle conversion which I bought from a forum member a few years ago. It's based on a 110B and it's a great design and quick in operation. It has the standard Rodenstock 127mm lens, which I find to be a good focal length, wider than normal and which more-or-less matches the whole a...

Re: Cleaning glass negs

That story sounds very familiar - I started working at the newspaper in the mid 80s and was told that virtually all the glass plates from the 1920s to the 50s had been thrown away in the early 60s as they were too heavy and took up too much space. I left there about 10 years ago, and the company, wh...

Re: Cleaning glass negs

I would be quite careful with any approach to cleaning glass plates. When I worked for a newspaper I was asked to print some 9x12cm glass plates from the 1950s and the emulsion was very delicate on those - possibly because of insufficient fixing or washing when they were originally developed. On a n...

Re: Replicating an old 'look' to pictures.

Thanks Neil,

Yes, the car is BRG (not a Ferrari unfortunately!). I will experiment with dev times before doing it in anger.

Replicating an old 'look' to pictures.

As I mentioned in another post, I've bought some Adox CHS 50 as I'm planning on taking some photos of a colleague's 1950s sports car which has been restored, and I'm trying to achieve the feel of photos taken at the time the car was new. I'll be using an MPP MicroPress and lenses from the same era -...

Adox CHS 50 film

I've recently bought a box of 5x4 Adox CHS 50 film, and having done a quick search here it seems that the emulsion is quite soft.

I'm going to be processing it in a Paterson Orbital processor using Rodinal - and advice on the best working practice, and should I use a pre-soak before the developer?

Re: Paper negatives

Thanks Evan, that is very useful.

It is VC paper, so I will try it with a yellow filter. Did you pre-flash the paper under an enlarger for a second or so?
