Blackburn & District Camera Club Magazine

For my sins I am secretary of Blackburn camera club. Unfortunately not many of the members are interested in proper photography but I am trying to convert them. However we do have an active communications and publicity committee and have this week launched a full colour online magazine. I know that ...

Re: Pyrocat HD developer in the UK?

I use pyrocat HD myself but I just mix it from the chemicals. I got mine from Retro. I used the version with de-ionised water and it seems to keep ok in dark bottles

Hi Patrick I tend to use FP4 and pyro so I can't tell you much about the film but I use the paterson tank with good results. I suspect that you can use a light meter and most b&w film is pretty tolerant of errors so I wouldn't worry on that score till you are happy and start getting greedy for bette...

Preston Docks

It was nice to meet you all and put some faces to names, although I'll forget all the names by next time we meet.

The snaps are still in the slides but I'll post the results if any come out.

Hi Mike I finished my degree last year and like you shot my final project in B&W with a sinar. Best of luck they are very heavy if you need to carry it a long way. Perhaps that's why I chose the orbital route for a subject I could drive round it. We had to write a journal as part of the project and ...

At last a print

I know its not much but I have finally got an image on paper so I have proved that my albumen process will work. Now I need practice to refine the system but its looking promising.

More details on my blog.

Thanks Ian I have run some tests with the pyrocat and didnt get any really contrasty results. I am going to repeat with a higher concentration. The problem is probably that I usually dev for a long tonal range and tend to over expose by rating at 50% ISO the exact opposite of what I need!! but I am ...

Thanks I'll look him up. However I have already whisked the eggs and bought the silver nitrate etc. The sensitising looks to be the tricky bit, getting the silver on without streaks etc. I will let you know what transpires. Part of my fascination with this is the fact that you can choose the paper b...

Pyrocat HD and Albumen

I posted a couple of months ago. At that time I was completing my degree show which ended up with about 40 5x4 shots being involved and about 20 prints made and I would like to thank those of you who visited the blog and commented. I am now pushing on and planning to make albumen prints. I am thinki...

Age of steam

The Walker is the huge Gallery in the city centre not far from the St Johns shopping centre. This is part of the city of culture stuff. I went at about 3:30 on a Wednesday before a talk at Open Eye and thought I would have plenty of time to see it. I was thrown out at 5pm when it shut there is loads...

Walker Evans

I have seen the recent posts re Ansel Adams but wonder if any of you have seen the Walker Evans show which is touring from the Hayward. I caught up with it in Hexham last week but it has now moved on. I know it is going to York sometime and if you keep your eyes open it might come close to you. The ...

The Blackburn Project

I posted in the new members section a short while ago about my Degree project. It was quite a short project, only a few weeks shooting, but I got though 2 boxes of film and came to love/hate carrying a Sinar F2 on location and it is now completed. I know some of you live in the North West and you ma...

Good work I have a MPP and have thought about using it as a press camera as it was designed but have chickened out. This is an inspiration and I will give it a go. I have been toying with a return to the Appleby horse fair that might be the event.
