Tony, I like my negs fairly punchy. so do not reduce dev too much. Typically I expose HP5+ at ASA 200 and FP4+ at ASA 64, developing them in 1:1 ID11 for 13 and 7 mins respectively. This is perhaps 15% less than in the case of intermittent agitation. I've never done it but I suppose you could dev a ...

Hi, Tony. I have used the BTZS tubes for some time, and I like them very much. They are not appropriate for developing a lot of negatives, but I amass six exposures over a period of time anyway. The 60 mls of dev for each tube makes it reasonably economical, and temperatures seem to keep fairly stab...

Discounted film
Joanna,
Put me down for a box of the Acros.
When and where was information about ordering other sponsored products posted. I was expecting to get some information from you, and was looking regularly on the site, but never saw anything

I apologise if I seem to be a tad critical of others in my possibly over hasty post above. I do of course accept that good exposure and development on a well composed image are vital to ultimate good results, but Photoshop is also potentially a wonderfully expressive tool beyond mere levels and satu...

I find the camera raw converter in CS3 is indispensable for black and white conversion. I personally feel that having the options to tweak six colour ranges, the way of altering certain tonal ranges in the curves option that comes with the converter, and the ability to 'rescue' some highlight loss, ...

Scarborough weekend
Paul, Just a note to let you know I have boooked a room at the Royal Hotel, Scarborough for the Large Format meet at the end of April. Actually I have booked a double room since my wife was quite keen to spend some time on the East coast, though not being a photographer herself, she will be doing he...

Photographic burnout
Dear Paul, I can really empathise with how you are feeling. I, and I suspect many others, have been through such periods of self doubt. Firstly, I am sure that one's 'creative' flow (if that's not too a pretentious word to use), ebbs and flows. In my professional (as a retired GP) and personal exper...

Joanna, This is one cracking shot, and, despite my being a B&W enthusiast, for once, I personally much prefer the colour shot. I was up that way a few weeks ago, knowing that a steam train was coming over, and waiting for it. I was shooting DSLR so not admissible here, but how I wish I had found tho...

Yorkshire Dales miniworkshop
As mentioned in another post, I would be very happy to try to pull together a 'mini' worshop in the Yorkshire Dales. I was thinking of the weekend of 28th to 30th of July, and probably based in either Settle or Ingleton, where there is more availability of accommodation and access to Wharfedale, Wen...

Joanna, Sorry to be a little late in responding to your suggestion - only just got around to seeing the post. If I suggest a definite weekend, possibly in late July, I will ask for respondents to contact me within say 2-3 weeks, and I will look for accommodation options once numbers are known. I wil...

Geoff, I have had my R2400 for 3 months, and although I have only produced 2-3 prints on it as yet ( because of getting au fait with the production of digital negatives), I have been delighted with the results. As you probably know there are many reports on the web of very beautiful images being pro...

Workshop venues
It is obvious that arranging a workshop venue is frought with difficulty. Can I make a suggestion that at each future venue, one member offers or is appointed to arrange the next one, with him having the choice of area and being responsible for liasing with members by e-mail for numbers, and being r...

I will withdraw my suggestion for the Dales in a bunk barn, at least for this year, since Joanna seems keen on Scotland. The bunk barn would be self catering (though as I said, evening meals can be brought in or we can adjourn to a local pub), but in this age I hope we can assume both sexes would mu...
