Re: query on linhof rangefinder

Hi Andrew, Do you know which model camera you have? From the ST V the lenses were matched to the cams at the factory: the cameras did not have to go in for matching. but the infinity stops on the rails have to be matched to the lens. The easiest test is to set the camera up looking at a distant obje...

Re: Mamiya 7ii outfir F/S

Thanks Paul. I was wondering if it would be safe to list it, and only did as I don't often come on the site. As it happens I've just posted the ad on ebay, so perhaps it would be best to remove the post anyway?

Mamiya 7ii outfir F/S

Having had one clearout of surplus gear, I have decided to part with my Mamiya outfit as well. I bought most of it new some time ago, thinking I'd like a MF version of my Leicas: I was wrong, preferring my Rollei's and square format in MF. The set comprises the 7ii body and 80mm and 150mm lenses wit...

Re: 5x7 film holder confusion

Hi Guys, A bit late but Happy New Year! If anyone is interested, I'll be ordering some Half-plate Foma 100 in the near future. I emailed Jana at Foma before Christmas, who confirmed that they will still make it, but it is to order only, and I'll have to go through Silverprint as they are the officia...

Re: RIP

Hi Guys, I started to post a reply just now, and then thought I'd have a look at Joe Cornish's web site. I lead a fairly solitary photographic life, and must admit I'd never heard of him until he was mentioned on this thread. Now, although his style is not one I'd want to emulate, I can now see wher...

Re: RIP

Hi Guys, I must admit that the forum has been much slower that I thought it would be when I joined a couple of years ago, with no postings for weeks at a time. I remember some unpleasantness being aired, but wasn't party to it, and much prefer not upsetting other folk! I gather the original purpose ...

WTB 1/2 plate holders

Does any one have any 1/2 plate film holders spare? For preference the wooden English-made Kodak ones?

I know there are a couple on ebay at the moment, but I'm not buying at thirty quid each!

Re: Lake District Spring 2013

Hi Charles,

I hope to be able to come along - where will people be staying whilst up there?

Are most of you bringing 5x4 or larger?

Re: Lens mounting flanges

Hi Charles, Basically, Yes! I am quite happy to bore out lens panels and make flanges and all that sort of stuff. Although I haven't mounted lens elements into shutters, I do have a lens and shutter that I might have a go with. If that is sucessful, and I cannot see why it wouldn't be, and if I can ...

Re: Getting a metal lens board rebored - any suggestions?

Hi All, The easiest way is to get someone to bore the panel out for you! As a plug, have a look at my recent posting about lens flanges. I hope to do another post soon, about making a series of new panels for my Zeiss Universal Jewel B. http://www.lf-photo.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=3329 Susie

Lens mounting flanges

I thought some of you might be interested in a lens mounting project that has kept me busy for a couple of days. Despite having a clearout of cameras, I did recently buy another! This is a whole-plate tailboard camera that I wanted for the impending wet-plate season. It was advertised on ebay, reaso...

Re: Hoppe's Portraits

Hi Dennis, I agree with what you say about equipment. I think the thing is, in Hoppe's and Adams' case they were interested in the gear as a tool - same as Edward Weston was. Better equipment made it easier to get the result they were after. The 'amateur' approach, as derided in the press, is the id...

Re: Hoppe's Portraits

Hi Dennis. Thanks for adding to the thread! The soft look was one that he seems to have developed: no pun intended! I bought a copy of his autobiography about 25 years ago and quote from that. On one picture taken with a Rectilinear lens in 1908 he says, "I still like these cheap, old-fashioned lens...
