Just to really irritate the die-hards, I'll be bringing my Mamiya ZD 22mp digital camera as well as the 8x10, but I promise to use the 8x10...mainly 8)

Looks like a plan could be coming together :) Here is a very comprehensive scanner comparison on another LF site. It takes a while to download. www.largeformatphotography.info/scan-comparison Its difficult to make much from that comparison.. Some of the scans have clearly been heavily sharpened, ot...

Some comparisons between a Howtek 4500 scan and an Epson 4990 scan Here is a link to the pbase gallery where these can be viewed. I had embedded the pics but its easier to visit the gallery and save server space here. Explanations below each image http://www.pbase.com/douglas_freer/scanner_compariso...

I think the software is more of an issue than the connection. Trident 4, which I use, as do most Howtek owners, for example, has not been updated for several years. It is sophisticated software, and is nominaly supported by Colorbyte, who also sell ImagePrint. It requires a hardware dongle. Pete sup...

I am still waiting for Peter Slynn to come back to me. Just a thought. What sort of interface would be needed. At present I have a Pentium 4 but am looking to invest in the new Apple with the new intel processor. Will this link to up OK with what I presume is older technology? I run the 4500 from a...

My profiling might not be as good as yours. I have MonacoProof and a 35mm Q60 target I have just used to build a profile. I also have a Hutcheson target somewhere but the software to use that has expired. So I have a decent workable profile but not the best known to man.

It's very tempting. Just had a chat with Pete too, he's gonna send me some more specs. I'm about to be made redundant in the next two weeks, then I'm off on a nice trip to relax and wind down. When I get back, I expect (hope) to have a great deal of chromes to scan. At this point, I will probably t...

They are pretty heavy but you can move them about in the back of a car with a decent size boot. A 4500 takes two to lift and move.

Good Luck, Alan & others, I hope is works out  Keep us posted.

I'm along the A11, about 15 miles south-west of Norwich. The smaller desktop drum scanners would be the easiest option, but I've yet to see anything like a Howtek 4500 come up for sale. I'll keep watching. And buying lottery tickets  I havve just waved goodbye to Pete Slynn who has been insta...

Personally, I would love a drum scanner, if I win the lottery this week, I'm having one, end of story. It fits in with the "scan once, print many" philosophy I prefer to work by. Get the best possible scan, at high resolution, and there is your master. Scale down for printing as appropriate....

Hello Quentin, Excuse the fascetious questions, but what do you do with all that information you extract? Do you have a printer that can put out house-sized prints? Do you have a house that can show house-sized prints at their best? The point I am making is that the logical conclusion is materially...

I looked for a used drum scanner when I was after a scanner, I had read various threads of how cheap they had become. I looked for quite a while with no luck, I went the flat bed route with a wetmount kit. and though I like the results(for the price) I still would like a drum scanner in the next ye...
