Hello Keith, Michael does B&W, his contact details can be found at: http://www.michaeldyer.co.uk He prints for a lot of contemporary photographers such as Jem Southam, so he really knows what he's doing! For some reason I have not fathomed, focusing 1/3 in between nearest and furthest object actually means extending the bellows halfway between shortest and longest extension. Apologies for error in previous post. Happy reading! Charles Hi Charles, so to recap on the above, to focus a third in is the...

Andrew & Richard, Thanks for the reply and advice. I have been away, hence my delay in responding! I managed to rectify the problem with the enlarger head, it now lifts perfectly, with both the head and lens parts rising and falling completely parallel and straight. So what enlarger problems I had s...

10 x 8 darkroom query

Hey everyone, just a few enquiries. Is there any members that enlarge 10 x 8? I have a Devere 5108, and a metoform 24" dry to dry RA4 processor. I'm using a 300mm lens on the enlarger, and I'm having a few teething problems. Mainly focusing when I enlarge. My negative carrier has only one sheet of g...

Hi Tony, I find Michael Dyer Associates in Covent Garden to be the best for both processing and printing. They are used by many fine artists as well as large format enthusiasts. A quick Google search will bring them up. Their service to me (through the post) has been second to none. Bah to streaking...

Hi there, I have two Deardorff 10x8's, I use a Schneider Symmar S 240mm also. I get all my film from www.silverprint.com as they seem to be the cheapest and fastest around. I always carry my camera, lens, darkcloth and film holders in a Lowepro Super Trekker (I think it's called - it's their biggest...

Joanna, I couldn't ask for a more 'plain English' explanation that that! I was kinda getting flummaxed and going around in circles (of confusion!) with the seemingly complex and very in-depth features I have been so kindly pointed towards. Mind you, I have the latest View Camera issue now, and it re...

Thank you all so much for getting back to me. Yep, I am pretty new to LF, only ever used a Hasselblad before, so the whole LF thing to me is a revelation! I have a box of film, so I'm getting another trip planned, I'll make sure I get a load of practice in before I get 'out there'. I will keep my ey...

Thanks Marc, Your reply made a lot of sense of a bad first trip out with a 10x8. I use a 240mm lens, would you happen to know what the 'optimum' aperture is for the film format I am using? Would the rule of focusing a third into a scene still be relevant with front tilt and a smaller aperture than t...

SCHNEIDER SYMMAR-S 240MM QUESTION. PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi everyone, Thanks for looking at my thread. I have a Schneider Symmar-S 240mm lens, that, according to the barrel, stops down to f45. The arrow that you align to the markings travels a lot further than f45, I suspect to f90 and maybe even beyond. My question is this, does anyone know if the markin...
