Re: Someone got a good deal ... hopefully!
From the listing: I bought it to go on holiday with and take nice landscapes but found it would be better suited to someone with more patients!
Perhaps a doctor bought it!

Re: Fixed focus camera?
I am beginning to feel a little sorry for Dave Dawson, the original poster. All he wanted to do was make a simple wooden fixed focus camera using a 90mm Super Angulon lens. He has been told he will need a very expensive or home-made focussing mount or will need to shim the lens board to overcome hi...

Re: Fixed focus camera?
With regard to focus testing, trying to find infinity on an ƒ/8 lens would be a very inexact way to approach things, and would invariably end up with focusing error in the close range. I know, I tried it! I found the best plan was to use the data from Schneider's website and set the back of the shu...

Re: Fixed focus camera?
Matt, do you have any details of your camera anywhere? I apologise if they are on your website but I couldn't find anything.

Re: Fixed focus camera?
Well my fixed focus camera project hasn't got off to a very good start :( I haven't been able to find an old 5x4 international back or a #0 shutter at a reasonable price I keep getting outbid) :'( Has anyone got either of the above please? The back doesn't have to be pretty and can have a broken/mi...

Well - I do occasionally play Django type stuff but even with all of my fingers, I'm nowhere near Django's competence!Alan Clark wrote:Steve. Do you really need all your fingers to play the guitar? How many did Django Reinhart have?

Re: Fixed focus camera?
Steve, it's the Olympus mount that causes the vignette when the lens is rotated out. I found I had to file it to accommodate the image corners. So far, I have only tried this with a 6x6 format so obviously I have missed out on the vignetting. I am hoping that with 6x12 format it will be o.k. too bu...

Re: Fixed focus camera?
What's all this "finger joint" malarky? Shame on you both! Nothing beats nice hand-cut dovetails!! I can do hand cut dovetails but CNC cut finger joints look much better than my not so nice dovetails.... And I refuse to use one of those router jig thingies to cut them! Actually, as I am a guitar pl...

Re: Fixed focus camera?
Here's another 65mm in an Olympus 50mm helical- in American black walnut That does look good. Did you take any pictures during construction? I would love to see the inside of the wooden parts. **** It looks as if you have modified the same Olympus lens as I have. I started out with a Minolta lens a...

Re: Fixed focus camera?
Thanks. That is a better collection of data. Interestingly, the recommended image area for the 65mm S A is 65mm x 90 but it gets used on 5" x 4".

Re: Fixed focus camera?
by my calculations the distance from the film plane to the back of the lens board is about 97mm for a S.A. 90mm f8 lens at infinity........Would you go along with that? Have a look here: http://www.ebonycamera.com/articles/lenses.html Data for a load of lenses. The last figure is the film plane to ...

Re: Fixed focus camera?
yeah I've seen those holgas - the nagging doubt I have is that the holga could potentially have crap film flatness (i doubt flatness is high on the agenda of the average holga user) I had thought that too but based on my results with the 65mm lens, I don't think film flatness will be an issue! Re: Fixed focus camera?
I had a similar idea of building a 6x14 rollfilm camera with a 90mm lens but never came to anything. one idea was to hack one of those old kodak 3a autographics but it just seemed a clunky solution. There is a 6x12 format pinhole Holga which seems ideal for this sort of thing. It could even be forc...
