I love Arran but I have not been for about five years. I suggest the Youth Hostel at Lochranza. It's cheap and you don't have to be a youth!

Ektar 100 in LF sizes - can it be true?
Not sure about this at the moment as there is nothing on Kodak's website. However..... Kodak has just announced the upcoming launch of Kodak Ektar 100 - the world’s finest-grained colour negative film emulsion available today - in 4x5” and 8x10” sheet formats. Since its introduction in September 200...

Re: Why E6 over C-41?
Although I suggested the transparency was a reference, it doesn't have to have true colour fidelity. After all, you shoot Velvia because of it's interpretation of colours, not in spite of it and even if it is nowhere near reality, it can still be a reference of the image you wanted to achieve when i...

Re: Why E6 over C-41?
I suppose that unlike 35mm or 6x6 transparencies, which can be fairly easily projected, large format transparencies are always going to have an extra stage or two of processing such as scanning and printing or scanning for book reproduction or even optical printing. The transparency gives a referenc...

What a pity. If I had found this before you changed your mind, I might have bought it!

Re: Aren't you glad you used film?!
It's just that, when you use a RAID mirrored drive box to ensure that when one drive goes down, the other keeps going, you don't expect the operating system (or something) to carefully delete everything except one file, then copy that deleted state back to the second drive, all without somuch as a ...

Re: Fixed focus camera?
There is a guy on e-bay that sells small sheets of light sealing foam. I got some and it works a treat. Thin strips held in with pva. I have some at work. Acres of it. It's about three feet wide on a roll, 1mm thick black foam with a self adhesive backing. If you want some, let me know. I don't thi...

Re: Fixed focus camera?
I'm planning on spraying all of the internal surfaces with a matt black paint. Hopefully this and the fact that I hve stepped the opening out with each layer should cut down the reflections. My main worry was about keeping the back light tight but I think that should be o.k. now that I have the step...

Re: Fixed focus camera?
Like the way your camera is shaping up, and also like the way you are taking your time making it. I now have a working back for it. It's a temporary one made from grey pvc in the absence of any suitable oak. For it's first go with a film it will probably be held on with rubber bands. I need to do a...

Re: Fixed focus camera?
very good, looks great, can't be far off making pictures- I just need to make the back which is a much slimmer version of the front. The problem is that the only piece of oak I have is warped so I think I will make a temporary back out of 9mm MDF and if it all works out o.k. I can get some more oak...

Re: Fixed focus camera?
I would like to mention that in all rollfilm cameras and rollfim backs I know, the (film + backing paper) is not actually pressed against the film gate by the pressure plate. The pressure plate rests against some precisely machined parts of the film holder, leaving a certain gap between the film ga...
