Re: Lenses - how to choose them?

Jools, have a read of this for starters http://www.largeformatphotography.info/lenses-primer/ Yes, you will need a lens board for each lens otherwise it's a pain mounting them in the field but I wouldn't worry about getting a lens wrench as mentioned in the above article. I use a pair of small watch...

Re: Still dreaming of 5x4

Jools, I got into LF just over two years ago and, like you, I was hung up about the gear and getting all possible movements on the camera. Fortunately, I was on a low-ish budget so that precluded exotica. I ended up buying a used Wista DXII because I admit I like the look and feel of wooden field ca...

WTB: Wista/Technika Lensboard-Copal No.1

Looking for a Copal No.1 board to fit my Wista. I don't mind if it's a Wista branded or unbranded board but would prefer one with a centred hole.

Many thanks,

Gavin

Re: Fuji Velvia 50 5x4 @ Robert Whites

Got mine as well. Thanks to all on here for explaining the situation with White's stock ordering and saving me from writing an embarrassing and unnecessary e-mail to them! :D

Re: Fuji Velvia 50 5x4 @ Robert Whites

Thanks for your advice, Glenn. As it happens, it may not now be an immediate issue as I've just had an e-mail from Whites to say that the film is out of stock! I can't understand how they let me go through the whole ordering process this morning without indicating this. I've even had umpteen confirm...

Re: Fuji Velvia 50 5x4 @ Robert Whites

Thanks very much for the tip-off, Glenn. I'd been worrying about getting some film at a good price and I'm sorted for a while now!

Just as a matter of interest do people recommend storage in the fridge or the freezer (for longer-term storage)?

Cheers,

Gavin

I'd add my endorsement of the Angulon too. A super lens in a compact package.

Re: 240mm lens advice, please

Thanks for the further comments/recommendations. I've settled on a 210mm Symmar S now and I'll be happy with that for a while, I think.

Gavin.

Re: WTB: Wista/Technika lens panels - Copal 1

Thanks to John (Horseman) I now have one panel but am still in the market for another.

As a reminder, I'd like to buy a Wista/Technika fit Copal 1 lens panel. I don't mind if it's a Wista branded or unbranded one but I would prefer a centred hole rather than offset.

Thanks,

Gavin

Re: WTB: Wista/Technika lens panels - Copal 1

Thanks, John, but my ignorance too! I'll have to defer to our Linhof experts as to whether they're the same size or not.

WTB: Wista/Technika lens panels - Copal 1

I'm looking for 2 lens panels for my Wista Field, Copal No.1 shutter size. I don't mind if they're Wista branded or non-branded but I would prefer centred hole rather than offset.

Many thanks,

Gavin

Re: 240mm lens advice, please

No, it didn't have to be a 240mm. I just chose that as being about the longest focal length practicable with my camera. However, after reading all your helpful comments I've changed my mind and fortunately the person offering me first call on the lenses also has a 210mm Symmar S so I've gone for tha...

240mm lens advice, please

I've been given the opportunity of buying a Schneider Symmar S 240mm f5.6 lens at a good price. My camera is a Wista DXII cherrywood field camera (5x4 format). I realise that this lens will need almost full extension on my camera to focus it at infinity and that I won't be able to go very much close...
