For what it is worth I have used a 3-section Gitzo 1325 CF tripod with 1370M head with my Toyo 45 since I bought it new ca 10 years ago & have found it perfectly OK. I did fit walking stick rubber ends - the hard plastic ends fitted started scarring almost immediately & the WS ends just fit over the...

Film scanning

First thing to ask yourself is what you want to do with the scan. For poster size prints, OK you'll need a big scan, but for most purposes, including publication, a much more manageable scan is OK & can be done at home using one of the Epson scanners. My (now elderly!) 4990 works fine for all trans/...

Petenk,
IME your best bet is to try using daylight if possible. This the cheapest & most effective lighting. Position the paintings on an easel, or piece of furniture where the lighting gives no reflections. Keep everything square to back of camera of course. Best wishes, Dennis.

Thanks folks. As I read it the general consensus is that UPS is better than USPS (US postal service?)? I've only had books sent in & there is no duty/VAT on them. Dennis.

Try the Combiplan loaded with only 4 sheets of film. I've found this works OK using neat ID11 (D76), or just do them in a dish & get partner (wife) to tell you when she is starting the timing & 20 secs or so before the end of the time. Cheaper than fancy timer! Dennis.

Importing from USA

May have found a suitable 10 x 8 camera, but in the US. Can anyone with experience say which is the best shipper to ask the sender to use? I vaguely remember a thread in which someone mentioned one shipper who is bad? Thanks. Dennis.

Thanks for the info. I've come to the conclusion that I don't like the screw rear focussing, or the tubes sticking out at the front when in wide angle mode. Back to the drawing board. Dennis

Richard Ritter LF cameras

Still thinking about 8 x 10 & came across the Richard Ritter cameras which appear to be mainly carbon fibre tubes + wooden frames. Does anyone have an 8 x 10 they can comment on & perhaps email some pics of it? His web site has pics of ULF cameras, but not very clear or detailed. Thanks. Dennis.

Tax

Well thanks for all that. It obviously needs a bit of thought. Might be cheaper to go & smuggle the stuff back in . . . . Dennis
PS Only joking if HMC&E are watching.

Canham metal 10 x 8

Hi all,
Has anyone 'hands-on' experience of the Canham metal 10 x 8 camera. Apart from ltd rear movements (tilts only + focussing) it hits the right buttone re weight, compactness. Anyone help . . .? Dennis.

612 back

FWIW I have used a Horsman 612 holder for around 10 years (bought new from RW) & finss it excellent. Cheapo is fine until it fails just when you have that special shot in the bag! Works well with 150, 90 & 55 mm lenses. Dennis
