Angled viewfinder for Ebony cameras

Anyone looking for an angled viewer for their 4x5 Ebony camera I can recommend one of these; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Folding-Monocular-Magnifying-Reflex-Viewer-Ebony-4x5-/150720105911?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item23179e4db7 I've used it on my SW45. It's from a seller in China but it arrived quic...

Re: Contact printing frame

For 'printing-out' processes a split back frame is desirable to check on progress without the risk of putting the negative out of register, however for 'developing-out' processes like most pt/pd printing the Paterson Universal Contact Printing frame is fine, I've used it for pt/pd printing and it wo...

Re: Contact printing frame

Paterson make a Universal contact printing frame; http://www.firstcall-photographic.co.uk/products/909/paterson-contact-printing-frame-universal I have one and it usually works ok. However I did treat myself a couple of years ago to a Lotus 10"x12" contact frame from Linhof and Studio, expensive but...

No turning back now Muzz :D

Marc is a nice chap to deal with, I bought a cracking little 135 Fujinon-W from him earlier this year.

Re: Which Large Format to buy/usage/advice

FWIW, if I was starting afresh I would go with 5"x7". However I do appreciate that 5x7 cameras do not appear too frequently on the S/H market. For me it's the ideal format, large enough for decent contact prints (I just love contact prints) and not much of a hassle to undertake enlargements. A decen...

Re: Fujnon W 150mm f5.6

Nick, the only 150mm lens with a 52mm front filter thread is the 150mm NW; http://www.subclub.org/fujinon/150nw56.jpg It will only have W marked on the lens, not the N.

How bad is that finger mark etched into the front element?

Re: Fujnon W 150mm f5.6

Hi Nick, I would think that etched finger print on the front element is causing issues with focusing. I have a Fujinon 135-W single coated and although prone to flare is easy to focus and tack sharp wide open.

Re: 240mm lens advice, please

I have a couple of 240mm lenses, an Apo-Sironar S, this is another big lens that I wouldn't really recommend for the Wista field. I use it on 8x10, marvelous coverage. The other 240mm is a Tele-Congo, which is great for 4x5, results are pin sharp, it is also light and compact. They don't appear too ...

Re: Darkroom facilities

Hi Dave,

There is also Andrew Sanderson, he runs various workshops on darkroom printing. He is a great printer, an Ilford master printer and uses formats up to 8"x10"

However he too is based in West Yorkshire so me prove a bit of a trek for you.

Re: New Ebony camera??!!

Personally I prefer the 5x7 to whole plate. I have a 5x7 reduction back for my Ebony SLW810 but the kit is still bulky and fairly heavy. I just need to convince the wife that I really just need one more camera (Ebony 5x7 non-folding), and it will truly be my last :D

Re: Services Forum

IMO I think it would be a valuable resource to have such sections as, 'repair and restoration'. For example, being able to locate a cheap but reliable LF shutter repair service would, I'm sure, be a useful service of this UK LF forum. One may even want to consider a section on classic and little kno...

Re: Landscape Photographer of the Year 2011

Firstly my congratulations to both Paul and Tim. I believe if the original work of the photographers is what has been accepted then they should not be cropped or otherwise altered. One is undermining the integrity of the artist. If for whatever reason an alteration is required then the photographer ...

Re: Schneider Super Symmar 80/4.5 XL

The 80XLSS is my most used WA lens on the 4x5 format. A nice compact lens with plenty of movement and pin sharp when stopped down. My Ebony SW45 is fitted with their WA fresnel and I have no focusing problems with this or any of my WA lenses. I have it fitted in a Copal Press shutter, a great combo ...

Re: 10x8 Wide Angle Lens Recommendations

John, if you can track one down I would certainly recommend the discontinued Fujinon 210 W. It's a small lens for the 8x10 format, 58mm filters and a decent image circle of 352mm, so allowing a little movement with 8x10. I managed to pick one up on Ebay from a US dealer for a good price and I love i...

Re: spot meters

Up until a few ago I used a Pentax Spotmeter V, great, robust reliable, however I sold it when I purchased their digital version solely because it is smaller and is easier to read in low light situations. Would certainly not hesitate to recommend either. I also attached a zone scale to both.
