Re: Carbon Transfer printing
Hi Bruce, A course is definitely the way to go; it took me a couple of years to get the hang of the process. I never get tired of watching the soot wash off the print as it is developing. I am not printing much at the moment, but if you are in North Wilts at any time, I have lots of prints with exam...

Re: Wiltshire meet up
Many thanks Paul for organising a great day out. I have souped my film and paper and apart from a few schoolboy errors with mis-calculating exposure times, I managed to get a workable harvest of images. Here are a few tasters; they are available in larger views on my blog and the blog page has a few...

Re: Moved to Wiltshire
Hi Ian,
I am in the very North of Wilts. I have been absent for a while too but plan to get the cameras out more; all I need now is a sunny day ....
Best regards,
Evan

Re: Ridgeway outing?
After temporarily 'misplacing' a roll of film, I have now developed the last of my pictures from the day. Looking back at my notes, the lens I used has a slow shutter and I forgot to correct, so I over exposed a bit. I took the picture with my 6x9 baby view camera. 130mm salvaged lens from a Kodak 1...

Re: Paper negatives
Hi Charles, I have not been as adventurous as Richard Cynan Jones in that he appears to be coating his own paper in order to make proper Calotypes. I simply use normal commercial silver-gelatine printing paper (mainly B&W but do use RA4 for colour) in place of film in a film holder. For me it starte...

Re: Paper negatives
Hi Matt, Yes an enlarger will be ideal. I have my system set so 4 seconds gives a good degree of flashing. It is simple to do a test; just put a strip of paper on the enlarger bed and uncover sections at 1 sec, 2 sec etc. and then develop (make sure half of the strip gets no light at all so that you...

Re: WTB: vintage Patent-Rollex rollfilm back
Hi Matt, What is the width/length of the film holder? If it is the 6x9 size I may have something that will fit. It has a total width of 76mm and is about 72mm wide not including the flange The flange thickness is <2mm for about a length of 93mm then expands to 5mm for another 36mm, with an overall l...

Re: Paper negatives
Hi Matt, Is it Kentmere graded or VC paper? For either case, it is best to pre-flash the paper first otherwise the dynamic range is really extreme (i.e. just a few stops and strong shadow/highlight clipping). All the following assumes you have pre-flashed the paper so that if an unexposed sheet is d...

Re: Determing normal development for film
Val, Yes I got my first step wedge from RH designs too, but recently purchased a 31 step transmissive and a 21 step reflective one directly from Stouffer in the US; I sent them an email to confirm the prices and then they can take the order by telephone. Best regards, Evan

Re: Determing normal development for film
Val, If you have a step-wedge such as a Stouffer T2115 then you can scan that alongside the actual negative and then compare scanner readings in the negative to the scanner readings of the steps in the step wedge. I often plot a graph of the step values and their densities and then just use the grap...
