Re: Models for LF portraiture

I've come to this thread late, but I want to make two comments.

1. What a great thread. A well thought out and intelligent question, clearly put, and a series of sensible and eminently useful/helpful replies.
2. This is what I read this forum for. Thank you to all who have contributed to the thread.

Re: Transporter Bridge

Joanna will tell you about the one at Rochefort in south-west France. It's pretty amazing. I took my Rolleiflex to photograph it, but that roll was ballsed up by a processing house (moral: always do your own if you can), and I only have these two digital images to show for the shoot. http://www.flic...

Re: Still dreaming of 5x4

Oliver, you are right. I don't know what I want. That is why I am asking the questions. I like to make very well informed decisions before making any purchases. I'm sure that you can see that and understand? Everyone on here was new to LF at some point. I have the benefit of being able to tap into ...

Re: Still dreaming of 5x4

Oddly enough Andrew, one of the things I would like to do is to use it for 6x12 thus the need for roll film. It's almost getting to that stage whereby it's a "you have to see it to understand it" thing. Unfortunately, I am not in the best yet of being to go through cameras like a dose of salts. Wit...

Re: Contact printing frame

Hi Dennis I have a feeling/recollection that fotosped used to stock them as new items - I'm not aware of any other retailer in the UK However, contact printing frames are a standard 'stock item' over at the excellent Bostick & Sullivan, here's the link:- http://www.bostick-sullivan.com/cart/home.ph...

Re: Out of date film

Hi, and thanks for your reply. (I was beginning to think nobody had heard of such a situation!) OK, then I'll try it with just the normal adjustments for high contrast. Thanks again. I think you'll find many of us here using technically out of date QL stock. I have around 1000 QL sheets in my freez...

Out of date film

I've been given a pack of Fuji Acros in 5x4 that is 15 months out of date and has been kept in a wooden box in my neighbour's attic. (Needless to say, it's now in my freezer.) I'd like to use it for contact printing salt prints, for which I need a high-contrast image. I'd probably process it in Rodi...

With respect, I should think that this is the last thing we should be concerned about in the circumstances.

Re: Cambo monorail – a huge lever?

Thanks to both Dennis and Dave for taking the time to give your thoughts on this. Both make sense, not least because I could probably leave the plate permanently attached to the Cambo mounting bracket. I do have two, after all, and one with an Allen key fitting would make a third.

Cambo monorail – a huge lever?

I have a Cambo SC, which runs on the standard square-section monorail. The rail is about 18 inches in length. I find it impossible to tighten my Manfrotto hexagon quick-release plate's thumbscrew enough to overcome the rail's tendency to act as a lever. The result is that any sideways pressure on ei...

Re: A quick & easy sheet film numbering system

I don't see how, though, it will identify individual sheets (he writes that, often, different filters or different exposures are applied to the same scene, and his method allows them to be distinguished). I must be missing something! Would it not be a case of referring to his notes? Exposure time, ...

Re: A quick & easy sheet film numbering system

That's an ingenious method of categorising film holders. I don't see how, though, it will identify individual sheets (he writes that, often, different filters or different exposures are applied to the same scene, and his method allows them to be distinguished). I must be missing something! My Koni-O...
