Re: Green country of ours

phew - I thought at first you meant India Pale Ale... nn :) That's for internal applications... :) Thanks for the pics Charles. My 5x4 has been to Oz too! The first time I got to see the Opera House close up I was too jiggered from the flight to line up the camera properly! It would be good to meet...

Re: Green country of ours

Thanks Steve and George for your answers. I'll see if I can find some IPA (or IMS) in my stocks, and failing that I will turn to diluted bleach. @George: the Jeyes fluid bottle states plainly that it contains formaldehyde. I've had it a while, so formulations may have changed. A dehumidifier in this...

Re: Ageing of Velvia 50

Hello Paul,
Yes I allow 1/3 stop for my metering which seems systematically optimistic and another 1/3 for V50. These rolls are dark.
I'll do some more testing taking note of batches.
Thanks,
Charles

Green country of ours

I have just returned from 4 weeks on the road. My old house was quite damp when I returned. A set of Sinar bag bellows that I had stored have developped many spots of mould. What would people recommend (or not recommend) to clear it? I can use mildly soapy water to shift the excess but for a more in...

Ageing of Velvia 50

I have just used a few 120 rolls of older (probably original) Velvia 50. They have all come back about 1 stop under-exposed. Newer Velvia 100F shot at the same time doesn't present the same problem. I am quite certain it's not reciprocity failure and not a mistake on my part with setting the shutter...

Re: 4x5 Velvia 50 update

I hope Stef Dunn is able to make some convincing & constructive suggestions. Paul's comment about a stockpile of 1000 sheets is quite revealing. A commercial landscape photographer working from dawn till dusk with only a 5x4 camera, will expose 20 sheets in a good day quite easily. So that stockpile...

Re: The Heathrow gauntlet

A lot of other kit that was top notch one hundred years ago has also hit the deck. Nice that we can take advantage of it. I'm guessing that you haven't tried to procure a Dallmeyer 3B recently :? Actually, and going totally OT, I think that's exactly what VM is railing against. Yes the 3B is a fine...

Re: The Heathrow gauntlet

Well Sinars have lost of value so why not Ebony's? With the gradual disappearance of slide film, it may yet happen. A lot of other kit that was top notch one hundred years ago has also hit the deck. Nice that we can take advantage of it. Charles (who travels with a Sinar 5x4 because he can't squeeze...

Re: PHOTOKINA 2012, a report with images

Thanks for all this. What we really need is a double roll-film back that will simultaneously expose two photos each 6x9cm so that when sheet film disappears, we can scan and blend the two in PhotoShop to recreate the sheet film look... Salutations, Charles A bit of back rise/fall or shift and a 6x1...

Re: The Heathrow gauntlet

I worry less about theft or loss than damage, because the latter is far more likely in my personal experience. I have had hard bags dented by the gentle handlers. What worries me most is the effect of jolting on fine mechanisms. The hair-springs in my old Compur would regularly jump out of their pos...

Re: The Heathrow gauntlet

Yes, I'll be flying a "proper" airline. 7kg seems to be the number usually bandied about for various airlines, but it still ain't much. I'll take a lighter bag and make sure I have plenty of pockets to fill. Hand luggage may be weighed at check-in by the airline or at security. So depends on both. E...

The Heathrow gauntlet

I am due to fly out of Heathrow in a few weeks' time. I'll be taking my camera gear, so I am curious about how officious officialdom is these days. Are they really strict about the 7kg weight limit on hand luggage? My LowePro bag is just under half the allowance which leaves little room for the impo...

5x4 and 10x8 enlargers

I was speaking to Mike Walker who tells me there are four devere 504 enlargers (varicontrast multigrade and Dichromat), and one 5108 Dichromat in a college in the NW of England, all looking for a new home. They'll need picking up. No timers, no lenses. Very reasonable prices. Any interest, then let ...
