Re: First Wet-plates

A Dag is a different ball game, some people do buff their ambros/tintypes, this buffs up the silver and gives it a shiney look. Trophy Aluminium is probably more convenient, you dont have to clean it as its got a protective film you just peel off, if you drop it it doesnt smash, you dont have to deb...

Re: First Wet-plates

Hi John,

In the first post it says "Both are whole plate on trophy aluminium."

So yes pour collodion onto the aluminium, sensitize, expose, dev and fix and you have a positive image as you mention.

Re: Photographer's class

Hi Charles, I have a book called " Amateurs, Photography and the Mid Victorian Imagination" that may be of use to you, or may be a little too early. I'll take it to the studio on Monday and you can pick it up from there. Not sure if John got back to you or not but I'll be there most of the day just ...

Re: Lots of questions

Silver will be your biggest expense. 100g £85
I think collodion was about £33.
Dev less again. £12? Thats off the top of my head prob wrong
You can use rapid fix.

But you'll also find you'll need a whole load of other stuff to make your life easier.

Re: Wet Plate Cameras and Lenses

I've just bought a small bottle of Liquitex gloss varnish to see how that goes.....I'll let you know.
Everyone seems to have different ideas/problems/tips when it comes to varnish.

But lets get this post back on track....cameras and lenses.
