Charles, Just a few snippets to chuck in: B&W make filters for wide-angle lenses that don't have front threads - I have a couple of polarisers from them like that. I don't know whether they make other series in the same style. For custom filter holders, SRB-Griturn do bespoke stuff so it might be wo...

I haven't been for a few days as I am on Islay at present but there will be lots of snowcover still I imagine. It is in fact snowing here as we speak! Gari Typical, snow before we went, rained all the time we were there and no snow and then it was on radio this morning that A82 at Glencoe was close...

I think I'II upgrade it to a golfing brolley for this trip! :D Mary Poppins, here we come on Rannoch Moor  I think I've seen Jack Dykinga with a brolly attached to a tripod in a forest in his nature book but it wasn't windy between all the redwoods... Apparently, Mothercare make something fo...

That's an eyewatering set of prices and I'm not likely to be going for it soon - the £889 is similar to the new price of recent (sensible) times. I can understand the £1075 for a standard lens but the other prices are a joke - I guess they mean the 'new' price is RRP. I've not used a centre filter o...

We've recently had 8 days at the King's House Hotel (www.kingy.com) and you can't get much closer unless you've got either a tent or a ski-lift pass... Good luck with the weather - we were expecting snow from watching the hotel's webcam but virtually every day was rain apart from one on Skye when it...

I can't say much about Rodenstock range apart from they have a very nice 90mm f4.5 version. For Schneider, the XL is the wonder lens, the f/8 is decent but it's a stop slower if working inside dingy interiors. I'd avoid the f/6.8 lens as this just manages to cover 4x5 when at f/22 so no movements po...

What's wide on a 4x5 will not be as wide on a 6x9 so for the same field of view, you'd need even wider but you'll have more movements... I originally bought 75 and 210 to use with a roll film back as it would give me a lot of movements but once I'd tried 4x5 I didn't go back 8) It's an old picture b...

Hi Bip, I've got the 90XL but for an odd picture it hasn't been wide enough. I've also got the Grandagon 75m f/6.8 which is a last chance desperation measure as it has very limited movements - the 72XL is a lot better in this respect and would be a good next purchase for me if the money was availabl...

This will be a very simplified generalisation (so don't shoot me ;) ) but is it because the 'modern' US (i.e. not counting Native Americans) doesn't have any art 'history' like in Europe? They've only developed in the photographic age rather than having centuries of painters before so they maybe acc...
