As I came from a Sinar P2 to the Ebony, I wanted asymmetric movements to continue where I'd left off as they can be good for quick setups (OK, I'm not that quick but it's faster that some other methods) That's one reason why Joe C calls it the equivalence of 'autofocus' in LF! For his JCB pictures, ...

...and from personal experience, I wouldn't recommend a Gossen Starlite - hopeless at lower light levels and quite fragile. The flash metering was great but it's rare I used that part of it and the Zone System wasn't very easy to work (one reason I bought it in the first place.) I swapped to the Pen...

Cheaper than Speed Graphic... http://www.speedgraphic.co.uk/prod.asp?i=16355&1=Pentax+Digital+Spotmeter Barry Ouch, and to think I paid £280 for mine... At the current prices, it's almost worth looking at the Kenko (ex-Minolta) meters and maybe Sekonic - you're then getting a full-spec meter but a ...

George, It's probably not as cheap as you were hoping but Badger Graphic and possibly others in the States were selling the Pentax meters at prices equivalent to pre-stupid UK prices, i.e. approx £300 for a brand new one versus nearly £600 from Jessops for the same thing  I haven't checked in...

Thanks for the info - it maybe saves me a phone call if I get round to affording a screen (by which time the price will probably have altered.) It's answered one query - Bill can supply a solution for the Ebony asymmetric markings as I didn't really fancy pencilling my own on to a screen / glass. I'...

Are the accessory levelling platforms any use as they fit a standard tripod between the column and head? AFAIR Manfrotto, Linhof and Gitzo make them depending upon how deep your pockets are. There could be others. There's also tripods with levelling built into them and you can get them with or witho...

Silvestri make some nice loupes that focus. I've used a 4x for a few years but they also do other strengths and a tilting option. I got mine after looking at the Rodenstock 4x which was expensive, plasticky and wouldn't hold focus. The Silvestri can be locked in position once you are happy with it a...

Welcome Mark, As much as Jo would like to initiate you into the tearoom appreciation society, I doubt there's anything like as much rain in Melbourne to force you into somewhere whilst it stops and you can go out and take pictures again. :) We could almost start and Australian branch of the UKLFPG a...

It's alright Marc, I'm bringing back the stick of celery and the flying goggles, obtained whilst here in France  Wot, no egg whisk and no feather duster??? I am disappointed. :P That's the response I came up with when Jo mentioned the post - must be something in the water (oder Schnapps, vell...

Re: Today !
Joanna C. and a sub-group of the LF-UK gang are already there. My understanding is that they needed at least whole week to train themselves to the very long French lunch break. I'll be at the conference tomorrow morning and see at lunch time if the training was efficient. Emmanuel, Good luck with t...

Ben, An 058 should do the trick but you'd have to get hold of the accessory levelling plate. The Manfrotto one isn't cheap but the Gitzo one will make your eyes water  With the 058 you'd have a centre column and also quick adjust legs where they lengthen / shorten by moving some lugs at the t...
