Re: When and How to Shade a Lens in the Field?

Many thanks for the suggestions, it is always interesting to get people's experiences. I will probably go with the Lee standard compendium hood, as I don't plan to be shooting super-wides, and I shall certainly get a hood for the Mamiya with polariser! I also agree about ebay vendor Heavystar, I sou...

Re: 5x4 field camera availability in the UK

Adaflex (small French online store) do the Tachi new and s/h. I have bought from them and they have been reliable for me. I suggest you check out their website.

When and How to Shade a Lens in the Field?

In 35mm and MF photography it would never occur to me not to use a lens hood, except when, say, a polarising filter was mounted and there was no way to fit a hood around it (eg with the Mamiya 7 dedicated polariser). Are LF shooters expected to be so punctillious? As I have a full set of 67mm colour...

Re: LF darkroom enlargement vs scanning

That's interesting, and Jack Dykinga recommended something along those lines in his LF Nature Photography book: Heidelberg Tango drum scan, photoshop final adjustments and Fuji Crystal Archive prints, although his were output on Lightjet printers. So what we're saying is that at the top end, digital...

Re: New to LF

Thanks Dave,

Yes I have started watching out for a Devere 504 with the Ilford multigrade BW head. I was advised not to go as big as a 5x7 enlarger as just too bulky, the 5x4 size already seems a real heavyweight.

New to LF

Hi Everybody Based near Richmond, Surrey I'm joining the forum hoping to speed up my LF learning curve, relying on all you wise existing members to put me right when required. I used to do serious 35mm including darkroom work many years ago, then, after the usual busy 20 year career hiatus, took up ...

LF darkroom enlargement vs scanning

I'd be interested in members' views as to whether there's still any advantage today in enlarging/printing LF negs (providing one had space for a LF darkroom) versus scanning them, given the improving quality of scanners and printers? What are current trends in this regard? I have a hankering to recr...

Re: Devere 504 enlarger with Ilford Multigrade 5000 head

Hi, is this the bench or the floor-standing model please? Have you used it much, and is it full working order in all respects, and how would you describe the condition of the enlarger and the lenses? Lastly, do you know the weight and can it be dis-assembled for transport in car? Sorry for all the q...
