Re: scanning colour negatives, how?

Ian: Very good info on Don Hutcheson's website, thanks. In the example above I adjusted black and white points only for simplicity, usually I'd end up with a good few control points. Charles: Good to know others use this type of technique. I don't know of such an action but I'm sure one exists or ca...

FS: Colour Getter 2 Drum Scanner

Just a heads up for anyone who may be interested. I was very tempted to this myself but have concluded I just dont have the space for another drum scanner. The seller was most helpful on querying about the machine. Should produce superb results for anyone keen enough to put the effort into the machi...

scanning colour negatives, how?

Updated: An overview of scanning colour negatives: http://www.tristancampbell.co.uk/scanning-colour-negatives Yesterday it was suggested it would be good to see a thread where people show or explain how they process a colour negative. I know getting colour right is something that puts a lot of peopl...

Re: Epson V750 vs Imacon 949

Yes, I've many a time scanned as a transparency and worked backwards from there. Rarely do that these days though. In fact my 7500 scan in this comparison used that technique- it was a transparency scanned as a negative and colour corrected from there... only ever scanned about 5 transparencies and ...

Re: Epson V750 vs Imacon 949

How about profiling for colour negatives though? I have my own methods of processing them which I'm very happy with but getting an accurate colour match between a series of negs can be very difficult unless they were taken on the same film at the same time, same processing and scanned together. Not ...

Re: Epson V750 vs Imacon 949

All very interesting. Scanner profiling is an area Tim knows that I've not really got around to yet, I'm keen to look into it at some point however. It is certainly very impressive that Tim and Ian can both reproduce the images so consistently. To me it all depends on your point of view and what you...

Re: Epson V750 vs Imacon 949

Patrick - my 7500 is not calibrated in any way. My monitor is reasonably well calibrated and the colour was matched (or attempted to be matched) by eye alone. I'm not a fan of super saturation so my scans probably reflect that. Cheers, Tristan

As it was on Velvia, this doesn't testify to the accuracy of the scan ;-)
Nor does it testify to the accuracy of Velvia. Glad you found using a larger aperture helpful.

Re: Printer economics - have I got this right?

Thanks Tim, appreciated. Totally understand the control aspect and would love to indulge in that. However I'll be sticking with my lab prints as unless you can (at the very least) break even in print sales it seems a very expensive route.

Re: Printer economics - have I got this right?

On printer economics has anyone worked out how many prints you need to be producing to break even on getting a lab to do the print? I'd love one of these printers but with the cost of printer, paper and ink it just doesn't seem viable to me when printing a fairly small number of prints per year. Plu...

Re: 400 speed colour

I think the choice of emulsions comprises of: Kodak 400NC. I shot 20 rolls on 6x9 recently and was very happy with the results. Slightly more grain (than 160) on a drum scan but I would certainly not hesitate to use it 5x4. AG Photographic have it but if you're planning on shooting a lot of it I'd i...

Re: Ffordes Photographic secondhand dealer website terrible

I've bought online at FFordes many time, no problems. The item is usually removed immediately though. On a couple of occasions I've bought onlineto be told it was sold offline and is no longer available which is a little annoying but all round they are excellent, highly recommended in my view.

Re: View of Leeds

If find this a very pleasing image to view. For me the exposure and colour on the original image are absolutely fine, very much as I imagine the scene would actually look. As you're on negative film I don't think you need a grad for this or to darken the sky other than maybe just a tiny amount for m...
