Re: Wilderness cameras!

I've been keeping quiet - but I too consider it unethical not to pay due duties. Though I do consider the courier's charges for doing that to be inequitable; they certainly seem excessive.

Hey ho, you can always paint a soapbox black and make a camera out of it!

Re: Inexpensive chemicals for B&W - where to buy?

Some scans - ADOX CHS 50 exposed at 25, 50, 100 and developed as above.

The uneven development on the left hand side is what happens when you (er, me) forgets to put the bung back in the bottom of the tank before adding the developer...

Re: Inexpensive chemicals for B&W - where to buy?

Y'know, for a bloke that used to grow his own chemistry and do mad stuff like cyanotypes and gum arabic prints... how the hell did I ever miss coffee development? That one I just *have* to try! Hmm... Caffeine appears to be the active ingredient, with the washing soda as a buffer and the vitamin C a...

Re: Inexpensive chemicals for B&W - where to buy?

See, I move away to somewhere that didn't have space to do chemistry, and twenty years later the place collapses. Oh the embarrassment!

I probably still have some of their chemicals in my attic.

Rayco in Barnsley were always good both for mixed standard formulas and raw chemicals - but it's been some years since I used them. Looks like their website has been parked, but you never know, the phone may still work. Rayco 199 King St Barnsley South Yorkshire S74 9LJ England tel:- 01226744594 web...

A source of inexpensive large-format cameras

While browsing through some old bound magazines - The Amateur Photographer and Photography, 1923 - I came across the following advert. My google-fu is not strong on this, but from what I can see, a skilled manual worker would have an income of perhaps sixty shillings a week - three pounds. A person ...

Re: In-camera positives using Ambrotypes and Tintypes

I made anthotypes years ago - but outside the camera; they take three days or so to expose... here's a recipe from 1923. There may be a certain amount of tongue-in-cheek... But I would certainly be interested in positive in-camera processes. I could drag those ancient brass lenses out of the attic. ...

I'd love to be there, but the four-hour each way drive rather mitigates against it.

Perhaps we need a 'dine sithe' equivalent?
