Re: making large negs on an epson printer ?

Dean, Yes it is very possible and if you are happy to live with only up to 10x8, it can be done quite cheaply too on an A4 printer, but larger printers give you more flexibility. Be prepared though for lots of 'tweaking' to get the negatives looking correct to your eye. If you do have a printer capa...

Re: Ridgeway outing?

Paul, Richard and Tim, All looking good. It always amazes me how so many different interpretations arise from the the same basic scenes; the slightly different choice of viewpoint, the different focal lengths and the different films all have a huge impact on the image. My thanks to you too Paul for ...

Joe,

This weekend is a bit crazy unfortunately; hope you had a good luck in the forest.

Re: QuickDisc

Paul, I tried using one of these a while ago; I too had problems with it blowing away etc. I stopped using it when I lost the little measuring strip :( Instead I glued a scale to the length of the camera bed so that I could read off the actual focal length and then wrote up a little table so that fo...

Re: Hello from Berkshire

Hi Glen,

It was good to meet up the other Saturday; I am also firmly of the opinion that a little insanity helps when it comes to LF! And yes, I often spend a significant fraction of my day writing software too :D

Best regards,

Evan

Re: Hi from North Wiltshire

Hi Joe, You have some fantastic images on your site; I am in North Wilts too and I recognise the ones of the water park. Life has been rather hectic recently, but I intend to have a good day out in the local area soon (fingers crossed for some frost!). I will send you a PM nearer the time to see if ...

Re: Ridgeway outing?

I have just about thawed out now! The first few negatives are not looking too bad, despite dropping them on the floor of the garage :( http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6111/6372523291_15e5ee0df1_z.jpg Along Waylands Smithy http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6103/6372522287_85cfdede2f_z.jpg By the Ridgeway h...

Re: Ridgeway outing?

Hi Paul,

I have been holding off replying to the list for a while as I am in London on Saturday but it is now confirmed as the evening :D I am in the Swindon area so do you mind if I tag along in the morning too?

Best regards,

Re: Albumen Prints...........anyone?

Andrew, I tend to do Argyrotypes/ VDB rather than salt or albumen, although I do sometimes use albumen as a size instead of gelatine (the albumen is not salted). I also do carbon transfers, primarily grinding my own pigments for the tissue. I did try coating some paper for albumen printing, but afte...

Re: Epson V700 as Densitometer

Val, Scan a Stouffer transmission step-wedge at the same time as the negative (or positive if you have a reflective step wedge). Find the pixel value of the region of interest on the negative, then find the step on the step-wedge which has the nearest value to the measured pixel. The process will th...

Re: Scheimpflug and another question

Charles, A fantastic image of the Rolls. Out of interest, why did you choose to have the car wing mirror also in focus? I assume that the prime drive for the image was to throw the main part of the windscreen out of focus so that the flying lady stood out against a nice background; my instinct would...

Re: Lacock Abbey: worth it?

On a quiet day about a year ago, I took my pinhole camera around with a small table-top tripod. I spoke to the NT folks in each of the rooms where I used it and they all agreed that Fox-Talbot would have probably approved and let me take an image. I made sure the exposures were all completed in just...

Re: First paper negs out of my Cambo 4x5

Bill, I put a sheet of paper in a film holder and then hold it up to a 'dim' light; I then pull out the slide about half an inch at a time each second until the full sheet is exposed and then turn off the light. When you develop it, the edge of the sheet will be white where it was under the lip of t...

Neil,

Looking good; those tripod bushes are sweet. I welded a nut to a steel plate for my first 4x5 and it really was not pretty!

Re: First paper negs out of my Cambo 4x5

Bill, Nice. Welcome to the LF paper negative community! Have you tried pre-flashing the paper yet? It helps to maintain the shadow detail more and gives an overall increase in the range of tones that can be captured. As you are using VC paper, you may also want to try a yellow filter which will redu...
