Good points Ian, thanks, I'll hold off with the meths I've just got home with .
The shutter is a no 5 universal, I'll go and have a look at the front of it and see if there is the easy access you write of.
Many thanks.

Re: Kodak 305mm Portrait lens
My last throw of the dice before a CLA is putting a drop of either meths or isopropyl alchohol on the end of the small screwdriver and operating the shutter immediately. Have you heard of this lubrication method?
Cheers.
Cheers.

Re: Kodak 305mm Portrait lens
Thanks chaps, I'm sure its not the depth anymore as I've poked a thin micro screwdriver in to fire the shutter and it does take quite an effort to make it work, sadly when fired it remains stuck closed and needs manually releasing. I dread the thought of sending away for a CLA as its my only working...

Kodak 305mm Portrait lens
I hope someone can help me out here. I am lucky enough to own the lovely (imho  ) 305mm Kodak portrait lens, the problem I have is using a cable release which only depresses the shutter and does not actually fire it. My hope is that it is simply a thread clash and if the release woulkd screw i...

Re: Damaged 190mm lens - any hope?
That's the thing, I'm grown really happy with what I have come to realise that I am still very much in front. I've got a lovely Deardorff V8, a 10 x 8 and 5 x 4 back and a Kodak 305mm portrait lens  It could. and should, have been perfect rather than me staring at the possibility of a trashed ...

Re: Damaged 190mm lens - any hope?
Thanks to both of you  I've been contacted by the seller, decent man it appears, quite mad but essentially decent. He's offered to pay for the shipping and have both the lenses fixed. I'm almost considering getting the 250mm fixed at my own expense because I'm sure to get it back sooner. Check...

Re: Damaged 190mm lens - any hope?
That's that then, decision made. I'm really glad that she has said she has spares and is confident of sorting it out for me, even though I presented more images of the damage. http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh292/Zhukov_01/Innerthread1.jpg I am going to treasure the day I finally get out into th...

Re: Damaged 190mm lens - any hope?
Psychic Vanman!! I was just about to search the site for ways to pay for repairs because Carol at Flutot's doesn't take credit cards or Paypal. So cash in the registered letter is ok you think?

Re: Damaged 190mm lens - any hope?
Good idea Dave, Its amazing how much I am learning about large format lenses now I've been forced into it through the tragic packaging episode.. I try to remain optimistic by reminding myself that the whole thing could have been so much worse....at least the seller is talking about paying the repair...

Re: Damaged 190mm lens - any hope?
Thanks Vanman, I've heard good things about her and have sent off an email enquiry. I had the lenses looked over by a senior colleague today and he noticed that the lenses are out of alignment by a few degrees as well as the impact damage. I also have a 250mm Ektar damaged in the same package, that ...

Re: Damaged 190mm lens - any hope?
Thanks Ian, its quite good news really, I kind of guestimated about £150 based on time to repair (plus the fact the shutter still works) and wishful thinking  I'll ask around a few American sites. The seller wrapped the items appallingly, it could have been an absolute roadsmash... He's going ...

Damaged 190mm lens - any hope?
My long awaited parcel arrived from the States today. The worst damage is the 190mm Wide Field Ektar. The 250mm has a stuck shutter and the camera body has been battered. http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh292/Zhukov_01/190mmv2.jpg http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh292/Zhukov_01/190mmv1.jpg htt...
