Re: Focus on Imaging

I was a bit disappointed with Focus this year, I was looking for a couple of things as bargains, and there just wasn't much in the way of bargains at all, some prices higher than normal. Print exhibitions also down on previous years. I did get to chat to Mr Walker though, which was nice. Attendance ...

Something of interest for you darkroom printers

Just came across this, and thought it would be of interest to you B&W darkroom printers, a new silver paper from Harman/Hahnemuhle under the Ilford brand. Looks like an interesting product. http://www.bjp-online.com/british-journal-of-photography/news/2027305/harman-technology-launch-black-white-pap...

Re: any portrait photographers here?

Hendrich Kerstens uses 8x10 for his photographs, he was one of the winners in the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize a year or two ago. Incidentally, this years show is on at the National Portrait Gallery starting Nov 15th, I've been for a few years now, and the quality of images on show is ...

Re: Epson V750 vs Imacon 949

But if velvia's got such a horrid colour cast, why bother trying to 'accurately' colour profile at all? You're not profiling the film , you're profiling the scanner . The "colour management" of the film was done by the chemist who designed it - daylight vs tungsten? etc etc. Velvia IS highly satura...

Re: Epson V750 vs Imacon 949

Putting on my diplomacy hat.... I want to take a moment to address some differences in colour balance on these images... For the uninitiated, you will see we have two scans here from two very similar scanners, and you will no doubt see differences between Joanna's and Tim's scan using the Epson V7x0...

Re: Printer economics - have I got this right?

This is a point of some contention and to my knowledge has never been confirmed one way or the other. My feeling is that they are full cartridges, however , when you install them, the system must be "primed", which in the case of the Pro level printers means filling long ink lines (the tubes going f...

Re: Printer economics - have I got this right?

I'm agonising between getting an Epson 3880 or 4880. I want the best, most accurate reproduction of greens and blues and the reds to look red (not orange  ) I probably shouldn't tell you that Epson just announced the 4900 at Photokina then.... with the new TFP head and the new Ultrachrome HDR...

Re: Printer economics - have I got this right?

Shhh, don't tell everyone.... Yes, the cost of ink when buying the larger cartridges is significantly cheaper, if you can suffer the initial cost of buying the printer. Buying new ink cartridges does sting the wallet, especially when more than one go at once, but they do last a long time. Als...

LF Photographer on BBC

Short clip interviewing Clyde Butcher on the subject of the Everglades. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/world_news_america/9002421.stm Clyde is apparently known as the "Ansel Adams of the Everglades" and if probably one of the few who could live up to such a title, he has been living and shoot...

And of course they can supply you with that nice bunny rabbit novelty club warmer which will likely fit very nicely over your tripod head. You'll be the talk o...

Re: Epson V750 vs Imacon 949

The F1 is the American model isn't it? I think the European model is the M1, which does have ICE, the disparity was something to do with licensing, otherwise they're identical. Whilst these are flatbed scanners, the film scanning part is done *under* the glass, and this scanner actually focuses so i...
