Re: Virtual Linhof Viewfinder for iPhone

He said a couple of people mentioned 6x9 format and that's in the next point release which is out this week. He also asked a question regarding arbitrary film sizes, how many are large format photographers likely to use? He is debating either 3 or 5 arbitrary sizes but can't go mad because he has to...

Re: Virtual Linhof Viewfinder for iPhone

I have just bought it and tried it out. You can set up, up to 4 different cameras, choosing the back and lenses you want. One small criticism is that it lacks a selection for a 6x9 rollfilm back, though it has one for a 6x12 rollfilm back. I spoke with the developer today, and mentioned a couple of...

Virtual Linhof Viewfinder for iPhone

For all of you who've lusted after the outrageously priced Linhof Viewfinder ( which is likely all of you  ), there may be a new ( and considerably cheaper ) alternative, for those of you with an iPhone or iPod Touch. http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/accessories/viewfinder.shtml Admit...

Re: B&W Processing Advice for newbie developer

Well, as I feared the highlights are overdone. The shadow detail seems good and I have detail there, but overall the image is way too bright. I think this was partly developing, and maybe a little bit exposure as well. I'm thinking that 14 mins will be the next try for N+ developing. Unedited raw sc...

Re: B&W Processing Advice for newbie developer

Well I've had another bash, much darker negs this time, but there are still light areas and lots of lovely grey tones between, they're drying now and I'm looking forward to seeing how they scan tomorrow. I used the DD-X at 1+6 again, but tried an N+ development and let it run for 15 mins, with 40 se...

Re: Flying with tripod in hand luggage?

I've taken my tripod abroad quite often, and had differing experiences. I always put it separately in proper padded tripod bag and check it. My experiences are mostly concerned with flying to the US from the UK. The airlines for quite a few years now have had a 2 bag limit on checked luggage and my ...

Re: B&W Processing Advice for newbie developer

This may not be long enough in the fixer, we tend to use between 4 and 5 minutes. This could be the reason for the slightly cloudy appearance. Just dunk them in the fixer again, even if they have dried, then give them a really good wash for at least half an hour under running water. Well the 3 minu...

Re: B&W Processing Advice for newbie developer

I use a water stop and give it 2 mins, and at least 5 mins for Fotospeed fixer at 9:1 (with an Orbital, continuous hand rotation) - maybe you need longer with the stop to kill development? The Ilford PDF doc said 10 seconds with the stop, but the bottle says 30 seconds. I left it in for a minute be...

Re: B&W Processing Advice for newbie developer

I've just done my first batch of B&W film, and there's a few issues. I used the DD-X at 1+6 as Joanna suggests for the full 12 minutes. I left the stop (1+19) in for about a minute, and then did 3 minutes on the fixer (1+4). The film seems to have developed ok, but the base is slightly cloudy, and w...

Re: WTB: Jobo tank and 5x4 reel

A lot of the ebay "bargains" then add on £20+ of postage, and don't come with any tanks/cylinders/washbottles, or only come with a 2800 print tank you'll never use, so can become less of a bargain. A lot do have the usual 28xx print drum and 15xx film drum. Now discovered that with the right combin...

Re: WTB: Jobo tank and 5x4 reel

There was one on the other day, a 2521 with 2509N and the 2508 loader base and 5x4 guide, it was on a BuyItNow of £110 plus a tenner for postage. It lasted a few hours and was gone, was a bit miffed to have missed it because I wanted the loader, I bit the bullet and bought a new tank and reel from ...

Re: WTB: Jobo tank and 5x4 reel

I've been watching the Jobo stuff on Ebay lately having just kitted myself up to do my own processing. The 2509N reels are rare on Ebay, and when they come up there is usually a fair bit of interest because of that, they routinely sell for close to the price of a new one... There was one on the othe...

Re: B&W Processing Advice for newbie developer

I have always reckoned on 15-20%, depending on hard the maths is with the starting time :D I'll start around that point then and see how I get on. Actually, I don't recommend placing Zone 3 on Zone 1, I recommend placing your deepest shadow with detail in Zone 1-2, depending on the results of a cou...

Re: B&W Processing Advice for newbie developer

Crikey, I didn't realise even finding N was going to be such a trial and error affair, I thought N was what was written on the box! Thank you for the advice so far, it's very helpful, keep it coming! From Richard's suggestions, you meter your shot for what you expect to be N and take two more 1 stop...
