Re: The Most Important Photographer of the Late 20th Century

I was hoping to stimulate an inclusive dialogue on Struth's work and the use of LF in the contemporary art world I wonder how many people are even aware of Struth's work (apart from the recent royal portrait, of course)? The fine-art photography world doesn't get huge coverage, sadly, and opportuni...

Re: The Most Important Photographer of the Late 20th Century

I saw this exhibition last year when it came to the Kunsthaus in Zurich and was well impressed - especially by the photographs of people in art galleries (in an art gallery - oh the irony.... ) His formal portraits were pretty good, too. There's a lot of variety and depth in his work. Totally...

Re: Cataloguing and storage

The paper slip is not such a bad idea. All my shooting info is kept in a couple of spiral-bound notebooks, with a small sketch and a date to connect the info to the images. It all sounds rather lackadaisical compared to your set-up.... :)

Re: Cataloguing and storage

One big advantage of 5x4 is that you don't accumulate that many shots! Anyway, this is what I do... Once I've decided on the keepers, the first thing I do is to divide my stuff into three piles - one pile goes to the round filing-cabinet on the floor (that would be the real disasters - not so many o...

What, Dave? Again? Didn't you sell all your LF stuff last year only to get back into shooting 5x4 a few months later? :? 8)

Re: Storing open packets of film/Quickload

I have reserved my former fruit/salad drawers at the bottom of my fridge for film and store all opened QL and boxes of sheet film there. That's what I do. Trouble is, the film colony has outgrown my salad drawers and has now taken over the lower levels of the main compartment. Trying to prevent deb...

Re: Hello from Metz (France)

Hi Christian,

I visited Metz a few years ago and it's a very beautiful town so I'm a bit envious.

The Fujinon 300 C is a fantastic lens - sharp, light and it fits a Copal 1 shutter unlike a lot of other long lenses. I have one - but I'm not selling. Sorry.

Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Re: Ebay categories

Ebay started losing sellers when they forced everyone to accept PayPal as a payment method - and leave themselves open to the scams that go with it. If they want to get more sellers, perhaps they could start by reversing that ridiculous decision....

Re: Would like to try Trident on Howtek

definitely more 'furniture' than 'appliance'
Do they do an upholstered version that could perhaps double as a sofa when not in use? Might make owning one a little more domestically acceptable.... :D

Re: Too common, apparently!

A Wista 45DX can take a bigger range of lenses (even my 65mm SA) for a lot less weight.
Two words: asymmetric back. :P

Trust me. If it weighed twice as much I'd still carry my 45SU for that one feature alone.

I see your thinking but won't it be difficult to keep light out of the armholes you aren't using? You'll need to be able to tie them off somehow...

Re: Epson V750 vs Imacon 949

Charles, Received wisdom has it that scanning at 4800dpi on an Epson is a largely pointless exercise as the scanner starts to interpolate above (I think) 2400dpi(possibly lower). So scanning at 4800dpi and then downsampling is effectively a double-interpolation. Now, if Tim says this leads to an imp...
