Another case for going around on three legs? Or saying that my bellows extend further than yours? This is an adult site, right?

daan t'beck

Hello all, I got myself out to May Beck yesterday to get the nice autumn colours and would appreciate comments on the pic below. I can't work out whether there is too little or too much happening, or if the structure is not forceful enough. Any comments welcome. Thanks, Charles http://www.chtwist.co...

A hooded sweater, a spotmeter holster and a Zenith sniper outfit: where were you thinking of holding the next meeting? It could be interesting... Are you offering tweed sweaters 8) ? Remember our meetings invite the heavens to open up, so weatherproof is a must. Seriously, only very minor interest f...

Hi Marc, I am glad to see you have at last eschewed the square for a normal format. It's a lovely picture. I'll get the website sorted over the weekend hopefully so as to accommodate any Glencoe pictures that people want to share. I will also eliminate any photos from non-workshop goers, in accordan...

I don't have a broad experience of light meters so can only talk about mine. I have a Sekonic 508 (made by Nikon) which I really like. It has a raft of functions. It can do spot as well as incidence metering. It can store three readings in memory plus show a fourth reading. All four appear on a hand...

Dim prob... if we can predict a weekend with some decent weather. I say, D&G, do you know any good little spots that are not immediately accessible to the non-cymraeg-ophone - some small chapel or other, that is only accessible if we know somebody who knows somebody with a key? What about Segontium:...

I like the sound of your simple lens, Ole. Not sure how much mileage it would get nowadays but very instructive in an optics class. As to the problem of dual movements, I basically had the same vision as both of you and had been thinking in that direction. Comforted by your words, I set about calcul...

Hello Ole, You're jumping the gun a bit with dual movements! I have spent some time going through the mighty Merklinger's pdf's. When it comes to dual movements, he acknowledges the case but says there is no simple treatment. And leaves it at that apparently - he might have worked on it privately or...

Do I understand that the angle of view tilts downward somewhat so that the point of focus is on the line of critical focus (distance o conserved)?

I have now checked my equations and I am confident there are no more mistakes. I have to say that it is very enjoyable doing the maths and understanding what matters. They are a good complement to the movies that Jo mentioned on the Merklinger site. What the graph I have just added shows is: (i) tha...

Thinking about it this morning, I realised I miscopied an equation when going to Excel... I must check more carefully tonight but I think the first graph actually looks like this: http://www.chtwist.com/stash/focalangle2.jpg The relative extension of 1 gives a weird curve, so I'll check some ...

Hello all, Sorry to hear you have not been well Marc, but hopefully you’re back on top form. I am glad we have some higher minded discussions going on. Thank you Ole too for the Merklinger thread: I actually knew about the site, but when I saw hinge rule, I just presumed he was using a fancy name fo...

Yup, I have the DaYi RFH back. I think it's great. I use it on a Toyo 45A (similar to 45AII and 45CF) but the 135mm lens is the only lens which works for me. The metallic box that is the Toyo is too thick for shorter/wider lenses + the DaYi. With a normal lens board, I guess the limit would be about...

Yes, Scotland is good fun. The Glencoe trip should be a good'un. The best shot is definitely the Elgol one after sunset - a good variation on an old friend. The first castle shot is the more interesting but it suffers from the rock on the right being cut off by the frame, IMO. Chong, that neck of wa...
