Re: Couple of recent shots

I see what you mean about the second shot. I like the way all the lines draw you to the centre of the shot leading you down the mast to the discarded shopping trolley which becomes the dominant element in the image. I have been to Wakefield once and found it quite a depressing town centre where ther...

Re: Pembrokeshire locations

I would second Manorbier but would also venture out toward Castlemartin where you are not far away from a sandy bay and also the cliffs approached across the MOD land where you can see the Elegug stacks and the Green Bridge. This is the Green Bridge (no my shot); http://www.flickr.com/photos/funkysu...

Re: New LF user from London

Hello Nicolas and welcome to the Forum. There are two books that I have and that I find useful; http://www.amazon.co.uk/Using-View-Camera-Steve-Simmons/dp/0817463534/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1277727302&sr=1-1 Jack Dykinga's book has lots of good information and some really inspirational photog...

Re: Why film

I am a member of a camera club whose membership is almost exclusively using digital now. In the early days digital was responsible for an increase in quantity but a decrease in quality of work but in the last couple of years the quality of work being produced is of a very high standard, especially i...

Re: To ''Maxwell Screen'' or not to ''Maxwell Screen''

I have both the 80XL and the 58XL and standard GG for use with my RSW. Here are my comments; 1. The 80 is hard work on the GG and it follows that the 58 is even harder. I'd love to get a WA GG that would make life easier. I do use up to 270mm focal length and have resisted a WA GG so far because the...

Re: So, how would you focus this?

Agree with Dave_w - Tilting won't gain you anything. I'd be using my 80mm and using my DOF calculator reckon I can focus from 94.9cms to Infinity at f/32. (calculator is DoF Plus app on the iPhone)

Re: Any use and familiar with Schneider tele-xenar 270mm f5.5?

I have a Tele-Arton 270 f5.5 with a Compur-1 but it operates just like any other lens. Not sure what differences are from a Tele-Xenar. What issues do you have with it?

Re: If you run out of film, you can always use paper

Interesting. I used paper instead of film when I had a go at pinhole photography. I shot on Ilford Multigrade III and then contact printed onto another sheet of paper. Worked fine. If and when I ever get round to making my 10x8 pinhole camera this seems worth a try. Interesting that it states pinhol...

Re: 2 down the river

It is a striking difference between the two. I like them both but wonder if a grad might have got more detail in the forground of the first one. I like the arrangement and colours in the second one but the boat on the left is too near the edge of the frame for me. Everything leads the eye in that di...

I was there last year and took a couple of shots from the fishing platforms which are where the classic shots are taken from. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3558/3613614126_77a52f33f5_o.jpg Ironbridge, Shropshire in late evening sun (Ebony RSW on Fuji Velvia 100 Quickload, 270mm lens, 1 sec @ f/32, ...

Do I need this? Can anybody tell me just how much vignetting I will get using the standard Lee holder and 86mm adapter ring on a Schneider 58mm XL with the 3b centre filter attached?

Re: How far have you gone for a shot...?

I once carried my entire LF kit plus mountain walking gear from Zermatt village at 1600m to the summit of the Mettalhorn at 3420m. Thats another 1200ft more than taking it up Ben Nevis. I got this shot on the way back down... http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3345/3634578631_ded490ea9b_o.jpg Looking ac...

Re: Wading shoes?

My good old Zamberlan Trek-lites (leather boots with Vibram soles) have taken me along a few long distances footpaths including the Pennine Way, up ALL the Munros and a few other british mountains, across glaciers and up a few Alps, squelching through Derbyshire peat bog, scrambling up sharp rocks o...
