Re: Trying out Arca Swiss
as they no Website Hello from France ! I can be of little help regarding seeing and manipulating Arca Swiss equipment in real life, except may be if some day I join one of your UK meetings (I have an Arca Swiss 6x9 F-metric and the 5x4" extension bellows and back, the so-called 'field' 5x4 version)...

Re: A stupid Question
since 5x4 will probably be the last LF size to disappear. As far as I am concerned, being an uncomproising Continental & Metric photographer, since I acquired a precision cutter/trimmer, the last format to disappear will be 9x12 (cm) and, at least for me, 9x12 (cm) will definitely outlast 5x4" by a...

Re: 171 Arca Swiss panels
Hello from France I can, confirm that older "Oschwald", pre-1984, Arca Swiss 171 mm panels fit the new cameras and vice-versa New F-line, post-1984, 171 mm panels are by default recessed, this makes the camera more comfortable for wide-angle lenses. Older ones are plain flat and relatively easy to r...

Re: berlebach, the built-in ballhead option
Hello from France ! Postby Adrian Twiss » Sat Feb 05, 2011 8:25 am eP ......The only question mark in my mind was the ball and socket mounting head. I have always found ball heads a bit of a fiddle to level successfully. Also, would mounting another head on a movable base possibly compromise stabili...

Re: UK source of large lens caps?
Have you tried ffordes in Scotland near Beauly. Hello John ! yes I know the Scottish dealer Ffordes , I have bought a few items from him in the past. In fact as far as lens caps are concerned one should maintain a list of sizes and keep it handy all the time when photo fairs & other garage sales oc...

Re: UK source of large lens caps?
Hello from France When I'm looking for lens caps, lens hoods, filters, step-up rings, etc... etc.. besides SRB Griturn in the UK (they do not show any large lens cap in their catalogue); I always have a look at the Heliopan catalogue http://heliopan.de/Preisliste.pdf lens caps are on page 16, but no...

Re: Portrait Lens on Toyo 5x4
Hello from France ! it is not difficult to make some back-of-a-virtual-envelope calculations to roughly predict the total bellows draw required to frame a tight portrait. I say : "virtual envelope" since we'll not compute anything at all except mentally estimate some rough values ;) No math required...

Re: Best reasonably priced tripod/ballhead combo?
Hello from France. I have a Berlebach Nr. 8013 wich does quite fit within your specifications for weight @2.2 kg instead of 1.9. 3-section, without centre colum, the Berlebach 8013 it is rated for 10 kg. berlebach users, experiences?
anyone on here use berlebach? Hello from France ! I'm routinely using a lightweight Berlebach Nr. 8013, 3 sections, plain head without central column. It's weight is 2.2 kg and checking the official specs it is rated by the manufacturer for 10 kg (22 lbs). If you look at aluminum tripods rated for ...

Re: The ultimate tripod head?
Here is a picture of the d4 at the photokina; taken with a camera I'm not allowed to mention here ;) This d4 model is fitted with the dual-dovetail clamp and classical screw-lock. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4109/5035302053_10321a4c05_b.jpg The classical clamp bears the two dovetails and has been...

Re: The ultimate tripod head?
I have found a picture of the d4 / d4m head with a new compact clamp dedicated for the newer and narrower plates, hence I now understand why some could be worried, but I am sure that one of the d4 models at the photokina was fitted with a double dovetail clamp, with a classical and simple screw-lock...

Re: The ultimate tripod head?
Hello from France I was at the Photokina in Cologne last week-end and I spent quite a long time at the Arca Swiss booth discussing with the Vogt family. It is too bad that the official press release for the d4 and d4m heads does not specify any figure in terms of acceptable load for those heads. How...

Re: how to work out image circle, 750 repro lens ?
I second Ian on this issue. If the lens is an apo-repro, it was meant for use at short distances and 1390 mm of image circle does make sense for a 750 at 1:1 on a repro bench where you make offset plates for road maps, about A0-size... using the technology of the sixties. A picture of a 750 mm Zeiss...

Re: 8x10 & 11x14 lenses
Aficionados of the 11x14" format (or should we say : 14x11" in the UK ? ;) ) can have a look at this list maintained by Henri Gaud on the French MF/LF forum. To date H.G.'s data base lists nothing less than 79 old & new lenses covering the 11x14"... http://www.galerie-photo.org/n2-f1-98622.html Smal...
