As a side issue. On the LF forum a short while back, people were concerned about the apparent shortage of 5x7 film holders. I don't know if this really is the case? Worth checking now that Fidelity have stopped production of all film holders. also on the LF forum a short while back was a poster who...

I have a Gandolfi 7x5" Traditional (yes, it's really traditional!) and a nameless german 13x18cm plate camera, and used to own two Linhof Technika III 5x7"s. The Gandolfi is a great camera - very strong and solid, yet much lighter than the all-metal Technika. If I were to start all over again with L...

If extension at inf. is 16cm and close focus is 22cm, that's a one stop difference. 32cm in the same case is a 2 stop difference. 16 - 22 - 32 - 45 I beg to differ here. If your lens at infinity is at 160mm, and you are focused at 320mm, thats ONE stop in my book. Double the distance, half the ligh...

Most of my printing frames were found on ebay - as "old picture frame"! I use POP too - from Retro Photographic. I'm sure it's the same as Centennial, and Chicago Albumen Works. The problem with selenium toner is that it contains a lot of ammonium thiosulphate, which bleaches the print. That same st...

The Cokin filters are famous for not being entirely colour-neutral with all films, and to give odd greenish or purple tones in the sky. It is said that the newest ones are better, but they still suffer from a dodgy reputation... Anyway I use Lee filters whenever I use filters at all. So far I have n...

Mine's a condensor head and I've just run out of ceiling height for something I recently tried printing, even with a 135mm lens on - will have to try and see if there's anything a bit wider that will still cover 4x5... Some taking lenses are fairly decent for enlarging too. The problem with using a...

Actually Ole, Schnieder sold some of the G-Clarons as enlarger lens mounted in their typical enlarger lens barrels. The G-Claron is a repro lens, not an enlarger lenses. Actually Ian, Schneider used the same barrels for enlarger lenses, repro lenses and copy lenses. Mine came in that kind of barrel...

Hwyl, I'm selling the lens for the price of the shutter, which is brand new with f-stops engraved by SK Grimes. So ypu'll have to add 10% to the price of a new Copal 1 shutter from Robert White, I'm afraid.... These repro lenses were the "heart" of printing until computers killed off the repro indus...

The G-Claron is a repro lens, not an enlarger lens. I have a 210 8which I'm selling) and a 355 (which I'm keeping), and had a 150 which I sold when I realised I had 15 150mm lenses... now i'm (often) using a 150/9 Germinar-W, another repro lens. These are really, really good. They're small as well, ...

I've flown the other way a few times. :)

Everything packed in a big heavy Pelicase, and checked in as luggage. Tripod in a light stand bag, wrapped in "dark cloth" and several layers of bubble wrap.

Only film in the hand luggage.

I still stick to the simple solution: I picked up a very dense black Levi's T-shirt at a sale a few years ago. The neck fits snugly around the back of 5x4" and 7x5" cameras; I reverse it for 8x10" and up. The short sleeves allow easy access with a loupe for exact focusing. The arm hole I'm not using...

Thanks for the offer Ole. If I ruin the back I have, trying to convert it, I will contact you about a possible replacement. What sort of money do you have in mind? Rob Postage only. I have several of them, they came in a big box of Linhof parts which contained one or two things I really needed. Cla...

I've used ball heads for LF all the time, and would never switch to anything else! I have a HUGE Uniloc ballhead for the big cameras - 8x10" to 12x16" - and a smaller Giottos which I use for everything from 35mm to 5x7". Well - most of the time I use the big one, unless I have a very good reason to ...
