Re: Focus On Imaging Exhibition, NEC 7-10 March

If you're going at the weekend get there early, the traffic can be hell. Anything up to an hours queueing time to get to a car park. Then a long queue for the bus. Expect to be ripped off at the car parks, it's usually about £8-00. In the recent past I've bought coating rods, 4x5 film and SRB are us...

He's a great seller as well as the BS. I've bought from him in the past, he makes every effort to avoid Paypal but has his methods for UK buyers.
Happy New Year,

Re: 5x4 field camera availability in the UK

Charles, OMG, Mr Cad??? This wonderful company sold me out of date half plate film at a prenium price (didn't notice until I'd used half the box), advertised 25 sheet boxes of film and when they arrived they were 10 sheet boxes (still a reasonable price for out of date film but not a bargain), if I ...

Re: Why are dark cloths red and black

The theory that I've heard more than once is that when all film/plates were orthochromatic dark cloths were red lined so that any small light leaks didn't ruin the plate or sheet of film. My wife made me a red lined dark cloth and the red material matches the bellows on my B&J. This prooves that it ...

Re: Pyrocat HD developer in the UK?

There seem to be variations on the formula for Pyrocat HD. I tried it some years ago and "when it was good, it was very very good and when it was bad it was...................". I could never discover what I did wrong when it didn't work very well (streaks), good negs and bad negs from the same batc...

Re: Sheetfilm.be / GVB Groundglass

Michael, You are so lucky. The phone is never answered, if it's not in stock you are not informed, e-mails are ignored. I ended up cutting 8x10 down to 5x7 last summer because I was so badly let down by that grubby little company. Leave him alone then he can do what he really wants to do...............

B&W Processing and scanning help sought

Joanna,
With a scanner that won't take a 4x5 neg would Patrick be better off making a contact print and scanning that if he needs a digital image? I've done this in the recent past and the results were pretty good as far as I could see?

B&W Processing and scanning help sought

Tombo, I don't think that you get camera fairs up on The Wirral but twenty to twenty five quid seems to be the giong rate for an Orbital when I visit one. If you don't want to use trays, because of the risk of scratching, and don't mind developing in the dark I've seen some pictures of pretty intere...

B&W Processing and scanning help sought

Hi Patrick, When I first started using a field camera I used a 6x9 roll film back. This gave me a chance to get used to the camera and mess around with movements while developing film in the Patterson roll film tanks that I was familiar with from my M.F & 35mm days. You would also be able to practis...

Scanner advice

My Cannon 9900f seems to be on its last legs and I'm asking what 4x5 neg scanners other forum members are using. I can't afford a V700 or anything in that price range. Are there any cheaper options that work O.K.? I'm not looking for fast scans, just good scans. I would like the ability to scan 5x7 ...

Shutter CLA

Good luck with the 203. I love mine and it covers 5x7 as well as 4x5 (the Ektar and my 150 G-Claron are my main lenses on 5x7). To set the camera up I put the shutter on B and lock the cable, easy when you get used to it.
Best wishes,

Gari,
There are times when you need to get the midground into focus as well as the near ground and "infinity". For this you need to use front tilt, rear tilt and a fairly small F stop (f22 - f 45, more if you're that way inclined).
Try it.
Vanman.
