Re: 20 sheet boxes of Fuji film....
Pro 160 NS is now listed on the Fuji Film shop website too at £52.88 for 20 sheets. However I just bought up the last 11 packs of Pro 160 from BHPhoto in the US at $16 per pack. Including import taxes it worked out at £1.70 per sheet rather than the £2.60 per sheet in this new 20 pack. I'd have gone...

Re: Epson V750 vs Imacon 949
Shadow differences very nicely highlighted. Which version of DPL did you go for Tim?

Re: Epson V750 vs Imacon 949
In my comparison of an Epson v750 to a Howtek 7500 the Epson scan used the standard Epson 5x4 film holder as I did not have a better scanning holder. I believe Tim's comparison was wetmounted with the better mount.

Re: Epson V750 vs Imacon 949
Very happy with what I'm getting from my scanner. I was never happy with Epson v750 scans though - as Tim points out - halation around high contrast edges, gave chromatic aberrations and impossible to get focus perfect. Here's a comparison with my Howtek 7500 vs an Epson v750. It's like getting a ne...

Re: C41 - Tetenal or Fuji Hunt
Not used Tetenal but am currently using Fuji c41. Have had some streaking on roll film (but not on 5x4). I was/am assuming it must be me not getting something quite right - most films are spot on, probably under 10% with some kind of markings. I'm presoaking for 5 mins - though I have forgotten a co...

Re: Why film
I think Richard's hits on a key point about prints in that you really can create something truly unique and one off. That's something that attracts me to large format in general - you end up with a unique and physical image where shutter speeds, apertures and so many other variables are never exact....

Re: Why film
I mentioned colour negative as this is simply my main film stock. I rarely use b/w these days. The properties apply equally to b/w which is even more flexible in almost every way, more latitude, better control of contrast etc. Negative film pretty much allows you to drop grads altogether if you wish...

Re: Why film
For me the main things are:
1. Highlight handling, as Tim has already mentioned, which is compltely different to the harsh way digital handles them.
2. Colour negative film - huge latitude and beautiful realistic colours which for me creates the ultimate medium to work with.

Re: To ''Maxwell Screen'' or not to ''Maxwell Screen''
I have the Hi-Lux 4.7 brilliant matte maxwell screen and have found it to be an improvement over the Ebony wide Fresnel on all of my lenses - 47mm to 120mm (especially the 47xl - though it's still not exactly bright). Personally I would have thought a 90mm would be fine without a centre filter on 5x...
