OK here goes for a simpler side-on view AND a sketch: http://www.chtwist.com/stash/scheimpflug.jpg So we are agreed that objects A and B are in focus. And we are also agreed that objects A' and B' are in focus. Logical conclusion: A, A', B and B' are all in focus. But I know from experience that I n...

Scheimpflug crisis

Hello all, I have a Scheimpful admission to make: I don't understand this rule. I know how to use it, but the theory I knew crumbled under a little thinking. One answer is not to think (generally a good idea), but I am hoping you might have another answer. Right, this is the problem: (i) the rule st...

Andrew, you weren't doubting my ability to light meter, were you? Joanna, your second visit was well worth. IMO a better batch than the first lot you showed. How much of the baths were closed? The picture of the main staircase is well worked out although I have misgivings about removing parts of pic...

The bulk of what features in the View Camera magazine article (that I mention above) can be found here: http://www-unix.oit.umass.edu/~rbhome/finalpaper2.pdf . Andrew: do you remember saying about Cornish's shot of the steps in Whitby? Look at the table on page 11 (Appendix) and you'll realise how l...

I am not sure how much you know about LF but it seems you're struggling a bit. So apologies if what I say is already known. I would recommend 2 references in respect of this thread. Firstly for the circle of confusion in relation to the optimum f-stop and the range of f-stops that are acceptable, I ...

LF journal

In an effort to raise our profile and attract new faces, the UKLFPG has written an article which is now published in the Large Format Journal, a UK based magazine dedicated to our favourite cameras. For more information, visit http://www.thelargeformatjournal.com/ . I am hoping that Jo and/or Paul w...

I have the Calumet tent and cannot live without it. It folds flat, seems solid (lives in the van and has been round Iceland and still fully functional), and is light. The erect tent has a space that can comfortably accomodate 2 double dark slides in depth and 3 in width and about 8 in height (allowi...

Almost there, Jo: you slipped at the last hurdle. Exposure time indicated was 1 minute. Which is within range of the Sekonic light meter I use. It is a touch on the thin side, but... As you know it was quite a dark spot, and I was really bothered by the very wide exposure range between the bright re...

Do they know what tea-rooms are State-side?
Other than that, why not stretch the workshops further afield but avoiding the planes problem? Ferry from Newcastle to Norway would be a good start. Eurostar to Paris and the south of France not bad either.

Very useful! Oh well it seems the watermark idea has had its day. I know that the pictures are not particularly big files (so difficult to get a good copy/print-out). I am not a commercial photographer who needs to protect his work either. Should I mark my images or should I ditch the idea entirely?...

Recent workshops

Hello All, For your friendly critique, here are two pics from recent get-togethers. The first organised by Andrew at Brodsworth: http://www.lf-photo.org.uk/pictures/full%20size/brodsworth2wm.jpg It took a while for that leaf to stand still for a full second. As I remember, at least long enough for A...

I have found there is not much light around the Rhaeadr Du, but why not? Next to those falls, on the other side of the road, there are the falls on the Afon Gain and the Afon Mawddach which are pretty good too. Dolgellau is close by, should the TAS sub-committee wish to convene in an environment the...

Self-timer

Hello All, I was looking for a self-timer that could be used on the LF lenses. Does such a thing exist? I have seen one item which is designed for SLRs. It's a mechanical device (with a coil spring, I believe) which screws into where the cable release normally does, but is rather too bulky to fit ar...
