Hi William,

welcome to the Forum. I'm sure you'll like it here :)
I think there's a good number of people from your neck of the woods around.

Have fun!

If the last few workshops are anything to go by we could hold the workshop in the Kalahari desert and it would still rain. I would guess that Cornwall has the least rain of the two and possibly more tea shops I agree with both statements :) Cornwall has my vote, but N Wales isn't bad either :) Marc

Chris, I second the choice of the Polaroid backs. They are quite bulky, but can be bought for relatively little money these days and can take all three film types. There are people who doubt its suitability, due to a lack of a sprung pressure plate, but I can not confirm that in any way. The film wi...

210 lenses are good, bright, cheap and plentiful.

I have a Caltar 210 (rebadged Rodenstock), which I can only recommend. Get a f5.6 or thereabout.
They were very popular for product shots in studios for ages which is why so many are going around now. :)

Paul,

I think there is Lakeland Photographic Holidays (or a vaguely similar name) in (unsurprisingly) the Lake District, which have had good writeups in the photographic press in recent years. I'm sure they have a website (but can't be bothered to check).

Henry, the fold out lip that you have cut binary code into, where is it and how did you cut the code, I would be interested to use this technique as I have been considering ways to ident the sheet film when it comes back from the processor. Ralph Lamprecht, one of the authors of the book (Way beyon...

Charles, Si photodiodes (i.e. the contents of modern lightmeters) do not have an entirely linear response to wavelength, unfortunately. If memory serves (I can look it up if needed), they peak in the red (700-800), and then sensitivity reaches further into the IR than the human eye. The upshot is, t...

Can of worms indeed :) Archival backing card. Mount to card with acid free paper "photo corners" (Silverprint sells something nice for this). Then place matting frame over it. Disadvantage is that you can not print to the full paper size and need to leave quite a border around the print. Alternative...

Surprising that the yellow giant has decided to suddenly bring out new B&W material. All other noises from Rochester suggested they weren't interested in traditional B&W work any more. TMY is an outstanding film, in my experience. I remember printing a 645 portrait to 20x25 or so, w/o any detectable...

Keith,

Ffordes currently have a 90/8 SA with recessed technika board for 249 right now.

There's also a couple of 90/6.8 Grandagons for around 500 and a Nikkor 90/4.5 SW for 699 :o

I agree. The SA90/8 does not need a centre filter. At least not on anything I have shot so far.

I picked one up in pristine condition from ffordes last year for GBP250, incl a recessed linhof lensboard. They are comparatively inexpensive. Great value for money!

Brian, I haven't got one to sell, unfortunately, but Calumet in Manchester managed to track one down for me in one of their other stores, a little while ago. Give the closes one a ring and ask. Alternatively, ring the Manchester store and ask for John, who kindly managed that for me at the time... M...
