Re: Wilderness cameras!
...it may be that you are unaware that this is a perennial complaint here... Quite the contrary, I'm very aware of the complaint, as it's been posted repeatedly by many at largeformatphotography.info and apug.org for more than a decade. ...I fear this thread has been hijacked rather, and will not c...

Re: Wilderness cameras!
You seem to have misread my post. I was not complaining about the taxes we pay here; my whole point was that for some reason, the price BEFORE taxes and duties are levied are significantly higher here in the UK than in the US, and elsewhere. The difference is often 25% or more. I object to supplier...

Re: Wilderness cameras!
...The prices we see on US sites are not inclusive of taxes and, if you were to buy them in a store in the US, you would be charged tax at the point of sale... In the US sales tax is a state/local levy. If one purchases from another state via mail order or on-line, assuming the seller has no physic...

Re: Recommended 4x5 Film holders?
I've just tried the sniff test on my Toyo holders and there's no abominable stench from them. Mine are all plastic, including the dark slide. Five out of the six have the name "Toyo Cut Film Holder 4x5 inch Made in Japan" printed in blue but one has the legend "Toyo Cut Film Holder 4x5 Sakai Specia...

Re: Recommended 4x5 Film holders?
Both my Lisco/Fidelity and Toyo 4x5 film holders (plastic dark slides) weigh 5.9 ounces. I vastly prefer Toyo and have 10 purchased new more than a decade ago. However, since the manufacturer moved production out of Japan, the plastic used exudes an abominable stench. See these threads: http://www.l...

Now that Fuji has announced it's discontinuing all Quickload
Joanna, do you have an update now that you know there won't be competition from *any* Fuji Quickloads after the distribution pipeline runs out?

Re: Envelope System for Quickload, ReadyLoad, Polaroid Holders
But Joanna, the dust! ;-) Now, don't you start   We yanks are an easy target, aren't we? :) In all fairness, it is surprising how lower levels of relative humidity affect the dust problem. We don't have many fungus-ridden lenses, but spend a lot more time spotting. I guess everything eve...

Re: Tungsten film where to buy
A combination of pressure to go digital from the specialty publisher of my wife's occasional articles along with absolutely horrible results when Fuji introduced its latest tungsten-balanced film (64T) drove me to a Canon G9. It's served the purpose fine, although I hate digital capture and was a sa...

Re: Ilford price hike
I suppose that as Ilford has the monopoly on black and white sheet film then they can charge as much as we are prepared to pay? I'm not sure what you mean by monopoly. If you're referring to the approximately annual "ULF" runs then yes, at this time, Ilford is the only game in town. However, if Ado...

Many people all around the world have been waiting a long time for this paper:

It should be in stores within a couple of months. I printed on the test coating last year and was thrilled; suggest you give it a try when available.

Looks like a nice design, especially the breathable fabric. However, two improvements are needed: * Larger size so it'll fit around the back of my SV Wholeplate * White outside fabric surface. Black might be fine for you who live where cloudiness is the norm (sorry for stereotyping :) ) but things i...

Re: ULF users?
A little sad to be replying to myself but just out of interest are there any ULF users here? i.e. greater than 8x10? Ilford's use of "ULF" isn't strictly correct. The special order program includes unusual sizes smaller than 8x10 too, e.g. 6-1/2 x 8-1/2 inch, so users of odd sizes might reply to yo...
