The update tonight is that I phoned Ffordes at lunchtime to check, and was told that it "seems to be sold as it is on the counter with a lens and a couple of filmholders", so (genuine) best wishes to the new owner. If I had REALLY wanted it, I could have had it. The potential trade-in was then given...

Just visit Robert White or Teamwork (my mistake ;) ) and ask to handle an Ebony. Stroke it, sniff those bellows, twiddle the sleek, elegant aluminium knobs, feel the silky smoothness of the titanium.... :P :D Sell your partner on ebay and use the proceeds to buy what will become the love of your li...

Mike M wrote:Hi Peter, you may be looking at the Walker SF which is a folder. The XL Wide weighs the same as my Shen Hao which is 400g heavier than the Ebonys.

You're absolutely right Mike, it is indeed the SF that's on the auction site.

Many thanks, Peter

I too looked at the Ebony RSW/SW and I very nearly went for one BUT then I heard about Mike Walkers cameras through this forum and after speaking to Mike I decided to buy his 5x4 Titan XL, its capabilities and movements are very similar to the RSW/SW but its made out of ABS instead of wood. Its pri...

Or, you could come to the Spring Workshop in Maldon, Essex, where you should find a few different types of camera which you would be able to try out. I'm afraid I can't make that weekend Joanna as I've a prior appointment at my best friend's 60th birthday, and he wouldn't be happy if I missed it. :(

Baxter & Mike I notice you are both based on the south coast and wonder if you went to Robert White to "play" with the cameras before making your decisions? I have Ffordes close by and see their website is showing an Ebony SW45 (1499) tonight, as well as a Toyo 45A11 (1099), a couple of Wistas and a...

Joanna, it is one of my regrets that I didn't make it to the Glencoe bash, since there was also an ephotozine weekend at Rowardennan at the end of that week. To have had a week's LF immersion and take it in amongst the epz digi fiends would have been great, but alas it never happened. Jools, since I...

Thanks Charles, that was useful. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my present camera as such, it is just that it doesn't quite suit me, for whatever reason! It's a bit like the Nikon/Canon debates you see elsewhere and I always thought they were meaningless trivia, until I changed from Nikon to...

Two good, two bad

Hi All I haven't been around here much over the past couple of years, but I do visit without automatically logging in all the time, so I haven't been ignoring you all either! I've come to the conclusion that one of the reasons I haven't been doing LF recently is that I'm not getting the buzz when us...

Chris

You might want to take a look at the Robert White page on LF Accessories as it shows the Fuji, Kodak & Polaroid backs with test results on interchangeability.
