Phil, may we know which paper you are using? Various suggestions come to mind such as put a MG filter under the lens (assuming that you are using MG paper!), which should reduce speed by 1 stop for grades 00–3.5; use a slower paper (MGT is 1 stop slower than MG4RC, for example), put a ND filter unde...

I confess to having a number of filters for B&W, and for landscapes the no 8 gets the most use, followed by the no 22 (orange). I also agree that glass is better—no, much better!

Bip, I usually expect to pay 20–25% more than the direct initial cost when I import stuff from the US or Japan. Though I have occasionally been let off. :)

Hi Sal, I feel that I ought to reply as someone who uses 12x10 trays for all my small size printing, and also a bathroom–darkroom! Mine are Photax make (this firm was I think taken over by Paterson), and may therefore not be exactly the dimensions of the latest Paterson items. However, I suggest tha...

Charles, I have nothing like your experience generally but I can chip in a bit about Heliopan filters of which I have quite a few. I have got mine from Teamwork. Delivery time can vary quite a lot—sometimes I have had to wait a few weeks, possibly for a new batch to be made. Although most of my filt...

Paul, the B2 is the biggie, right?! I guess it has the same "ARCA universal" plate that's found on the smaller units, in which case there are plates available from the usual sources eg RRS, Kirk. I have a RRS B22 plate which fits the Ebony 45S and SV57 (back thread) just fine. If I remember correctl...

maybe Sekonic - you're then getting a full-spec meter but a lot more complexity if you can handle it. Some time ago I bought a Sekonic with a 1 degree spotmeter mode (along with a lot more!) from RW, but I returned it because it had a great propensity to be affected by flare. It was one of the curr...

Can you still get hold of the Metered Light unit new as I've seen reviews but the site's dead? It seems that they have geared up for a new production run. Although their old site is dead they have a blogspot here http://meteredlight.blogspot.com/ which is updated every so often. It gives hope of co...

Thanks Andrew. Badger has them for $450, which translates to ~£380 after import duty etc. Still pricey. I am currently contemplating getting one of the Metered Light units, which are slightly cheaper at $425, and much smaller.

WTB: Pentax Digital Spotmeter

My Minolta spotmeter took a dip in Buttermere and died. Took it in to Newton Ellis, Liverpool, hoping for help. Chap behind the counter refused to take it in his hand! Gave it a look as if it was harbouring HIV, ebola virus and hepatitis B all at once. Said "that's digital, right?". No matter how mu...

Where can I get my Minolta Spotmeter serviced?

Hi folks, I'm just back from the Lake District (which has lived up to its name this week  ), and I would like to find someone who can take apart my Minolta Spotmeter F. Early in the week it took a brief dip in Buttermere. :( Enough water got inside to make it look as if it was raining when peer...
