News from Dave Parker

Dave is behind with his orders, and he's going to be even more behind. I don't blame him at all - read HERE: http://www.largeformatphotography.info/ ... hp?t=27040.

I'd also like to have the skill and speed to be able to get to a place and feel that I've taken enough images to do justice to a place - physically and mentally... I can't even begin to imagine how something like that could possibly happen! I've shot something like 200 LF shots within two minutes w...

I've been using a 2830 and a 2840 drum for sheet film developing. I do the 4x5" slides the "proper" way with spirals and all, and 5x7" slides in the 2830. If you have the winged spacers they're great, but maybe not strictly necessary. I have them, so I use them :) I've done 5x7", 13x18cm, 18x24cm, 8...

Thanks Keith - maybe that's an idea for a workshop?

It's really easy to make a print, the difficult part is to make a negative that will make a good print!

It's time to decide which camera and tripod to pack today. :) How many Cameras do you have? At last count, "more than 14". The decision today is between A) Speed Graphic 4x5", B) Carbon Infinity 4x5", C) Gandolfi Traditional 7x5", D) Gandolfi Traditional 8x10" and E) Unnamed German 13x18cm plate ca...

I originally made an enquiry about Stabil tripods in Sweden and phoned the chap who makes them but since his English was as good as my Swedish we just couldn't get the deal done. The Stabil tripods are made of American Oak and metal and look quite sturdy. Ole Tjugen swears by them. They are sturdy,...

I decided to buy a "travel tripod" recently, since all my "regular" ones are too big to fit in a suitcase. I ended up with a Manfrotto 055CF, which turned out to be more than good enough even with a Speed Graphic with "jumping" focal plane shutter. It's going with me this weekend too, I'm taking my ...

I organised the 2005 Gathering in Loen, Norway - http://www.bruraholo.no/treff2005.html ... We called it a "gathering" instead of a "workshop2, since I had no fixed program. I spent a lot of time praying for nice weather instead, although I had a backup plan if it turned out TOO grotty. :) There are...

I have the first two issues, and it's - promising.

When more and more magazines spend more and more space on head-to-head tests of equipment which will be superseded by the next version before the magazine is even printed, it's good to have another magazine dedicated to "traditional" photography!

By "<f/8" do you mean larger aperture number than f/8, or larger aperture opening? I assume you mean "more open than", but it isn't at all clear. :) In other words, I believe you mean something like this (at f:4.5): http://www.bruraholo.no/bilder/POP2.jpg and not this (at f:16): http://www.bruraholo...

I like to keep things simple, so I usually just measure incident light when use slide film. With B&W I spot meter the shadows and decide from that how much exposure they need, and then (sometimes) check the highlights to see if "fancy" development is needed.

Frankie,

you forgot to mention what quantity the prices are for - is it 10, 25 or 50 sheets per box/bag?

Another possibility is the Lee "GelSnap" - a rubber band held filter holder. It works surprisingly well, and is very useful with lenses without filter threads.

I use Tetenal gold toner. It's expensive, like all gold toners. But unlike most gold toners it seems to last forever!

I don't have a dish warmer, but I do have a 210mm Rodagon I'm not using (I use a 180 Rodagon for my 5x7" negatives, and don't enlarge larger negatives than that. The 180 gets used for most of the 4x5s as well).
