I think you're correct Marc, that's how I've always envisioned the "multiple movements". I don't find it particulary difficult though, just don't ask me to work out the maths! As to part II of your post, it is exactly the planarity of the field that causes the longer focal length at larger angles. I...

It is possible with some cameras to adjust the tilt axis relative to the lens so that a point stays in focus throughout the tilting operations. This is quite an interesting exercise, but sadly impossible on all but a very few cameras (anyone coming to Norway? Give me a call and I'll set up a demonst...

Gari, the board is not recessed but extended. Don't ask me why, but that's the way it is!

Except that it's all black, this is what I have: http://www.mppusers.freeuk.com/conepnl2.jpg

I've got one of those "top hat boards" for 90mm Angulon, if anyone needs one. I bought it for the Angulon that sat on it... :)

If you want a full definition of which one of the infinitely many planes that intersect the lens/film planes in a common line will be in focus, you are looking for something called "the Merklinger Hinge Rule". Look at http://www.trenholm.org/hmmerk/ and read everything there. At the end you will kno...

Funny you should say that! Someone on UK eBay is offering a set of 3 lens boards for the Carbon Infinity – only GBP180 the set :-)
Thanks for the tip - I'll keep an eye on that. They're cheaper than new ones, anyway...

I'll just add that I've had one of those for several years. I don't know where the box has gone, but the spanner is always in my camera bag/sack/pack/suitcase or whatever I'm taking out.

I don't think I have to add that I have far more lenses than lens boards...

We're not quite all from UK, although I feel in a definite minority here! I reckon that the UK is one of the few "abroads" I can reach in a reasonable time without subjecting to the full treatment at the airport both coming and going - I'm sure they won't let me take 60kg of carry-on! At the moment ...

I've used both Ilford FP4+ and APX100 (sadly discontinued) in situations of extreme contrast. FP4+ developed in D23 with Borax afterbath held up well in a 14-stop range without losing details anywhere. The negative was almost impossible to print though, I ended up using lith printing to retain the d...

"Great" is an apt choise of word in this context, I think... I have the Great Big Russian 30x40cm, an Original German Reisekamera in 24x30cm, another Original German Reisekamera in 13x18cm, and a (presumably German, as well) "Englische Type" Reisekamera in 18x24cm. A very quick test showed me that t...

I'm old enough to remember using PF 1 flash bulbs in a sort of hand torch holder!!.....and, I once worked with an old photographer who was still a keen user of flash powder and considered flash bulbs in much the same light that I regard 'iTTL/DTTL etc! Mind you, he thought glass plates were much be...

Gari, no. The gel-snap just snaps closed on gel filters, there's no "slide" option.

Maybe I should try modifying it to hold the "standard" Lee filter holder? Hmmm...

Since I have a LOT of old lenses of every possible thread, and some without threads at all, I've given up the whole thing and bought a Lee Gel-Snap to let me use filters on anything (except the HUGE portrait lenses).

Other than that, why not stretch the workshops further afield but avoiding the planes problem? Ferry from Newcastle to Norway would be a good start. I second that motion, and would be happy to show you around Bergen! On the scanning subject, I've been fighting with an Agfa Duoscan for a while. It's...
