Can confirm that locale was definitely flat... but very interesting and worth a visit. It's a strange place that grows on you: the more you look, the more you see. Thanks go to Paul.

Well, avoiding the obvious answers is difficult: I have a strong love of the outdoors and I like to make a record of what I have seen. Basically I want to express myself artistically through a visual medium and photographing 'it' is a darn lot faster than painting 'it' - even with LF. It also gives ...

I suppose you're talking from experience in both cases... You do worry me, Marc. Paul, any chance your tea room/trolley sells stakes and garlic??? But yes the LF camera: I suspect that wooden Ebonys attract far more of the questions about "old" cameras. In my experience, my metal camera has always a...

Paul,
Your tea-shop could be the first perfect tea-shop, which actually has glass plates, chemicals, dark room and all Vic cons. Might not have time to take your own pictures if you get too good though. Think it over.

Where is that I remember reading that some Germans could be a bit square??
More to the point, does anyone know whether there are any LF cameras with square backs?

Well Helen, I would say both pictures have their merits, but neither quite work for me. The first has fab foreground - a real find - but the light house just seems to poke out of it for no reason. There is no connection between the two. The second picture has the base of the light house and that giv...

Well U(NO3)2 is meant to be bright when shaken (triboluminescence), but if U(NO3)2 were serious then s/he'd know that a photograph is a new reality divorced from the reality that stood before his/her camera. There are many reasons why pictures do little more than reflect reality (all sufficiently we...

I find that when I'm in full swing, I get a lot of vignetting.

I doubt there is a quick answer to that one. I seem to recall some number crunching going on, on the lines that a scanned 5x4 equated to a couple 100 million pixels. Give digital a few years and it might catch up. Beyond that there is the question of how faithfully a scanner reproduces. You'll get p...

Cough. Splutter. Wot no tearooms??? I will be coming on this multi-prongued assault. I say, considering the photographic firepower being drawn on this poor building (move over shock and awe), might the custodians accept payment in photo kind? Some of us might be only to happy to share their piccies....

Much as you deserve a basalting, we still need you, so I won't. Besides which, you're on to something. The original shot (with added contrast) is: http://www.chtwist.com/stash/klaustur.jpg It was composed within the 5x4 frame and I did my best for it to work. Two things that mattered to me: getting ...
