Re: Lens for a MPP
Hi Nick, Just to add to the good advice already given, if you go for a Schneider lens, make sure you get a Super Angulon 90mm f/8 (or f/5.6 if your pocket runs to it) and not the earlier Angulon 90mm f/6.8. The earlier lens is okay, but not nearly as good as the Super Angulon. And yes, you will need...

Re: FS: MPP 5x4 Darkslides
Hi Paul,
You should get some takers for these as they are the Bee's Knees for those doing 5x4 wetplate, that is assuming they are the ones for glass plates, but also have the septum for film!

Re: A question on focussing
Hi Valerio, Like Neil, anything closer than a couple of feet and I need glasses. Several years ago when I had my eyes tested, I also had a perscription made up for a pair of glasses that will focus at about 7 inches. There is very little depth of focus at that range, and I have to keep them perched ...

Re: Rucksack and monorail camera
Hi Valerio.
Assuming your Kardan is like mine: the rail unscrews into two, it should fit into a large LoPro rucksack. Whereabouts in London are you? It might save time and be easier if we met up. I'm north of london, but within easy drive/train.

Re: Scheimpflug and another question
Hi Valerio, As Joanna said, you may well be putting on too much tilt: it is very sensitive. Certainly, with the Kardan, it is very difficult to put a small amount of front tilt on, as the ball detent wants to snap the lens panel back to zero. On mine the 'baggy' bit of the bellows also fouls the len...

Re: First Wet-plates
Here is another one I took on the same occasion, just got it scanned in. I was pouring a plate to use for another trial exposure. I knew these two girls were about, just looking at what these odd people were doing, when I heard Carl tell them that, "Susie's just pouring a plate: she will take your p...

Re: A personal observation on images worth keeping...
I know what you mean Neil. I can think of very few pictures I have made that I think are worth keeping, even those that are pleasing to look at! However I must say, that even though they were poorly posed, badly exposed, over developed and imperfect in many more ways, the wet-plate tin-types I did a...

Re: Air bulb suggestions
I have a few Packards and they all work, albeit after being taken apart and cleaned. There is usually a button which switches from bulb to instantanious.

Re: Air bulb suggestions
Hi Charles, The only time I have used an air bulb has been on Packard shutters on "Instantaneous", which is about 1/10th sec. The one I have has a bleed hole in the end, so it needs to be stopped up with a thumb as the bulb is squeezed, and then let open to let the air back into the bulb. It is quit...

Re: Some thoughts on the design of a lightweight 4x5
Hi Neil, I read with interest some of your recent comments about your intended use of the camera. A few years ago I was chatting to Paula Pell-Johnson who took over the Linhof agents from her father, about designing an English camera. This was about the time that Gandolfi was starting to dissapear, ...

Re: WTB Zeiss 21cm/4.5 Tessar in shutter
Found one, and bought it!
Good old ebay.de! The serial number shows it to be of 1926 vintage, the very year that Zeiss Ikon was formed. I made an offer and got it for about half the BIN.
Thanks for your suggestions guys.

Re: Some thoughts on the design of a lightweight 4x5
How wrong can one be?! While up in the loft, I dug out my Sanderson 5x4 Hand and stand camera, as it is about the lightest LF camera I own. To me, there is nothing of it. Very small, amazingly light, I thought I had your answer: a modern version of this. Downstairs in the kitchen I popped it onto th...

Hi all, Andrew Plume asked to see some pictures of my Protar set (why, I'm not sure!), so here they are, together with some rambling of mine. http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n556/KateandSusie/Susies%20camera%20pics/L1000163.jpg The first one shows the complete outfit, as it were. The set consist...
