Re: Combi-plan film clip - *how* much?

Thanks, Joanna; I already found a few by him. B+H prices are about half the UK price, too, but by the time the postage is on... ah, I wouldn't want to presume. I'll get one from Nova; I need some chemistry anyway - I still haven't sorted out my CHS50 exposure/development yet.

Re: Combi-plan film clip - *how* much?

Sadly, it's not a plastic that Araldite likes, nor any other of the array of glues I have around the place. The breaks are unfortunately in the springy bits.

Re: For critique please

Under the photo in my 'for critique' thread, Joanna. But don't click it if you don't have a machine with at least half a gig of memory, preferably a lot more. On a smaller memory it will be swapping in and out of the disc...

Combi-plan film clip - *how* much?

It turns out that they don't like falling to the floor with extreme prejudice... the only UK supplier I can find is Nova Darkroom, but fourteen quid for a little plastic bit?

I think I only paid a fiver the complete tank! Aye well, better bite the bullet I guess.

Re: For critique please

Indeed, hence my largish but forum-friendly previews with a link to a 10MB download/100MB display. In most cases, a smaller image at lower compression will give a subjectively sharper image on the browser. That's a problem with perceptual compression systems like JPEG. Another hint is to make sure y...

Re: Some thoughts on the design of a lightweight 4x5

Hi Emmanuel, I love those early designs. As you say, an easy model to make and no problems to make it have some vertical shift... and come to think of it, vertical shift is the commonest thing I do! Also, the nice big holes, in Colin Chapman's expression, 'add lightness'... Re my design: I...

Re: For critique please

Andrew, Did the forum image size restriction require you to apply so much compression? It looks a nice picture, but the jpeg artifacts on the lichen on the side of the bridge and in the branches are giving an odd 'defocussed' effect. Any chance of a pointer to the image in higher resolution/lower co...

Re: For critique please?

Thanks,

I agree - too much light in the back would have hidden the shopkeeper. It could perhaps have been raised a little, but there's plenty going on in there, I think: here's a section at about 1/3 real size.

Re: For critique please?

Unfortunately I couldn't step back; it was a candid shot (hey, call me paparazzi!) from a restaurant the other side of the street!

Re: Adox chs-50 underexposure

I tried some more shots today; nothing very exciting, just my back garden in sunlight and shadow. Four combinations: exposed at 50 ASA and 25 ASA - the meter showing an EV of 12.5 on the average, 14 in the sky and 11 on the shadow - and developed for 17 and 28 minutes in ID-11 at 20C with 10 seconds...

Re: Some thoughts on the design of a lightweight 4x5

My Manfrotto 055B - of long service - is 2.4kg without a head (as I normally use it with LF) and the camera (an MPP Press) is 2.8kg  - I haven't included slides and such since that is constant irrespective of camera. The carbon fibre version of the 055 is still 1.7kg - and the three-way head ...

Re: Some thoughts on the design of a lightweight 4x5

That's the fabric bellows put together. Now I'm happy I can make bellows I can go ahead with the camera itself - though I suspect that future versions may use a commercial bellows; these have come out a bit heavy at 105 grams and it's taken a couple of days to make them. Tiny bulldog clips are very ...

Re: Hello from Brighton

Ah, but get your hands on one of the press cameras, e.g. MPP or Graphlex, with one of those big parabolic reflector flashes... now that's seriously cool in your nightclub!

Re: Some thoughts on the design of a lightweight 4x5

Yes, I have the blackout on the inside, then the paper shapers (my word it's a pain cutting them out - 88 pieces and different shapes), then the outer cover. I have three sides complete on the fabric bellows, with the glue that's holding the final seam currently setting. Then the remaining shapers a...
