Re: The Most Important Photographer of the Late 20th Century
Therein may be a pointer: once a style is defined, it's reasonably easy for anyone with a similar skill set to replicate that style, given sufficient [s]£££[/s] encouragement. And to some extent, are we not as large format photographers deliberately choosing a technique which while superficially sim...

Re: The Most Important Photographer of the Late 20th Century
Like it or not, photography has had since its inception an image of 'poor man's art' - photographers are often seen as 'artists who can't paint'. And yet that ignores the basic fact that a painted image takes hours or days to make and includes only what the artist intends - while the photograph can ...

Re: The Most Important Photographer of the Late 20th Century
Maybe I'm the odd one out here - but I doubt if I could name *any* photographer after the vintage of Adams, Man Ray, Stieglitz, Weston, and maybe O'Keefe. And I could name those only because they were pioneers as much as Daguerre or Fox-Talbot, and I've come across them in general historical researc...

Ooops... International Broadcasting Conference, at the RAI.
Mostly TV and Radio, but occasionally some proper cameras turn up. Still deciding whether I can afford it this year.

Re: Hello from Holland
Hmmm... anyone planning on visiting IBC this year? I had a stand with Victorian 3-d photography last year, by invitation of the organisers, but nothing this year.

A personal observation on images worth keeping...
Has anyone else noticed the curious inverse relationship between the number of films on the roll and the number of images on that film worth keeping? After years of experimentation, I've come to the conclusion that except in very rare occasions (e.g. I'm very pleased with a series from a dead town i...

Re: 10-minute photos
It occurred to me just now that a multi-lens gem camera is automatically a stereo-camera. If you can find a set of the simultaneously produced gem images, it shouldn't be too difficult to find stereo pairs for 3-d images... Just to be contrary, some late 19th century stereograms - probably most were...

Re: The possibilities for creating new forums on here
I would incline to agree; small is good in many ways. We do not have a huge amount of discussion here - though I'm doing my best! Areas I'd like to see - and which I am discussing on other fora - might involve developer recipes and processes (I'm strictly a monochrome chap) and perhaps also multiple...

I'm still trying to find a box for those brass lenses, Andrew... I may have to get creative!

Re: Hmm, I wanted to attach a picture...
Ah, gotcha.
Since I wrote earlier, I've had a polite note from the seller: he bought the lens with no retainer, but has some which he will inspect to see if any is the right size.
Let's see what happens.
Cheers,
Neil

Thanks Paul - Griturn are just up the road from me, and will be getting a call on Monday. Hmm, I had a recent conversation with them about 3/8 tripod mounts, which they couldn't help with.
Andrew, answered in your other post, thanks.

Re: Hmm, I wanted to attach a picture...
I ain't complaining about the price on that lens, Andrew - though the seller has not yet responded to a polite enquiry seeking the mounting ring. I can't find anything on Mr CAD or Teamwork, but it looks like S K Grimes can supply for twenty bucks - I'll drop them a line. Or I found this one on ebay...
