Just incase this is useful to anyone, a friend pointed me to this - Adobe have free downloads available to everything in Creative Suite 2, including photoshop: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html Of course you want to check if your operating system still runs this "old" software....

I think they're only going to be about £80 more expensive than the 045n2.

Re: National Portrait Gallery
I believe dof is related to the size of the physical aperture, so hence it is scaled with the focal length/diagonal. I've probaky not explained that very well, but Tim is basically right with the theory there. So the factor of 4 used to scale it is right (or as I use, 3.5, since to me the diagonal g...

Offtopic: I make it more like a 3.5 factor between 4x5 and 35mm.timparkin wrote:You have to scale the aperture by four times to get the equivalent depth of field for 4x5. Hence a 150mm f/5.6 is equivalent to a 37.5mm f/1.4

Re: Import VAT and duty
Most stuff that I've had via USPS has been taxed, plus parcelforce adding their £8, the bastards.
As to whether your thing gets taxed as camera goods or an antique probably largely depends on what the sender writes on the customs declaration form stuck to the outside of the box.

Re: Tapatalk plugin for phpBB?
Since we seem to all be keen on a forum renaissance, how about one of the other admin/moderators looking into enabling tapatalk on the forum? Really would be good for smartphone users, and you know it might even prompt a bit more forum traffic.

Re: 6x12 backs
I haven't used these but I remember reading that the type in your second link are mainly plastic, but the dayi type are all metal. I'd give up drinking for a few months, save up and buy the metal type. i've got a dayi 6x17 back and its built like a brick sh!thouse, fairly utilitarian design but no r...

I think the Velvia news probably had an effect, as did the demise of quickload a few years ago - basically I suspect the fairweather quickload-only crew probably sold up and bought D800s. The other factor is when you consider some big and influential names like Joe Cornish seem to have gone totally ...

Re: Damp and condensation
I have had this problem a lot - my darkcloth is a couple of t-shirts sewn together, waist end elasticated around the camera back, and head in through the neck-hole. The solution is to keep your nose mouth out of the neck-hole - just your head and eyes need to be in. I don't know if this is applicabl...

Re: WTB: Field Camera
No disrespect but I very much doubt if you will find a used Chamonix for anywhere near that price Of course he will, they're only £600 new including postage from China (assuming no customs fee when importing)! When I've seen ones go second hand they seem to go in the £4-500 mark, which seems perfec...

Re: PHOTOKINA 2012, a report with images
Thanks for all this. What we really need is a double roll-film back that will simultaneously expose two photos each 6x9cm so that when sheet film disappears, we can scan and blend the two in PhotoShop to recreate the sheet film look... Salutations, Charles A bit of back rise/fall or shift and a 6x1...
