Has something changed in the last three weeks or so?

Suddenly I'm getting email notifications for every thread I've posted in, and I can't see how to turn it off. The control panel has nothing ticked, but still the emails come...

Re: Where's the best place to go to get a lens board cut?

Ian, I got the wooden materials from Balsamart, I think - but the site appears to be sulking at the moment.

Other model aircraft shops can probably supply.

Re: Ground glass focus screens

Ian,

How thick are they in approximately 4*5 (I can let you know exact dimensions later when I get back from Rio tomorrow) and how much? I could use a one or two for my homebrew camera, which is making do with ground-plastic 1mm sheet at present.

Re: Quick visit to Birmingham

Would it be uncivil of me to point out that the focus doesn't seem to include the apex of the steeple nor random discs of Mr Selfridge's wonderful emporium? This is probably my fault but I'm having some difficulty identifying the plane of focus.

Re: Where's the best place to go to get a lens board cut?

One caveat: while playing with wooden lens boards for my homebrew camera, I originally used two pieces of 2mm spruce ply to make the board (different sizes to make the light seal) and discovered that I had to cut one layer away completely to get a good mount for both the lens collar and the back ele...

Re: Calculating exposures

Am I the only one old enough to remember: 125ASA - bright sunshine, 125th@F16? Or the little pictures printed inside the film box? It was *years* before I got a light meter, or had a TTL meter, but I'm still using that old Weston Euromaster 4. Of course, B&W is a lot more forgiving, as a rule... Neil

Here's a link to some examples: http://www.flickr.com/photos/64335830@N07/ http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2704/5866691999_5c74d0df6e_b.jpg and http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3209/5866691981_02f9c4cc9c_b.jpg are in 4*5 and I feel work rather well. Re: which black and white film?

Alan,

You might consider Adox CHS-50; I'm becoming a fan of the orthochromatic look (almost no red response) and the grain simply isn't there; even on 35mm film there's no grain issue.

Re: Colour Negatives vs Colour slides

Valerio, By way of 'poor man's trichromie' I did some experiments over on the caffenol flickr section with 'bichromie and luminance' - if you're going to play around in photoshop or gimp to make the finished image, you can recreated the green channel by subtracting 11% of the blue and 30% of the red...
