Re: Testing 8x10 vs IQ180

As someone who's spent most of his career in imaging and signal processing of one sort and another (usually at much lower resolutions - broadcast TV) I'm watching this with interest... one thing which hasn't been discussed - and which the somewhat vague datasheet for the IQ180 doesn't specify - is e...

Re: WTB: Rodenstock Grandagon-N 90 mm f/4.5

Surely it couldn't be because a lens for a hundred quid with twenty quid VAT looks much better than one for a hundred and fifteen with a fiver vat... (which incidentally also gives away the dealer's markup)?

I'm such a cynic...

Re: The Most Important Photographer of the Late 20th Century

I'm not at all sure the comparison with a writer is valid. The fundamental point about the writer is that it is his words which tell the story. Whether they are mediated through a typist is immaterial; the typist may as well be a speech-to-text program and has no input save the mechanical transcript...

Re: Exposed Sheet Film - Help Please!

The only concern I would have with keeping it in a fridge is to ensure it is brought slowly up to working temperature before it's used; condensation on the film might otherwise be an issue. Certainly I'd want to bag it and add some silica gel as a drying agent while it's in the fridge.

Re: Any unwanted negatives?

Send me your address, John, and there will be negatives. Disposable, so do with them as you will! Most will have images, but developing flaws. Another information overload shot - not as crisp as Joanna's, down to the scanner I think - here: http://www.nailed-barnacle.co.uk/bigimages/0015.jpeg (bewar...

Re: Any unwanted negatives?

Are you happy with failed developer-test shots? I.e. a complete lack of any artistic effort, and not necessarily a wonderful image?

Re: Exposed Sheet Film - Help Please!

I've had a ten-year old box of FP4+ on a shelf in an unused bedroom for, well, ten years. It's got no noticeable issues...

Re: Free collodion magazine

Interesting stuff, Alex. Overall I think it works best for portraits - I particularly liked Carl's and yours - but I'm not sure I could live with the 'technical' deficiencies... I'm a broadcast engineer and I've spent a career ensuring the best fidelity possible, and deliberately encouraging defects...

Meh.

DO NOT LIKE websites which insist on using flash to scale images to suit my display. Just post the pdf and be done with it.
