Re: Hi from Ugley

Hi Susie,
Welcome to the forum. I was so busy engaging with your wet plate thread that I completely missed the fact that you were new here! With nearly 30 years LF experience, and with a collection like that, it sounds like your joining is well overdue :D All the best, John

Re: Hello Everyone

Welcome to the forum Greg. You are in the right place as Andrew and other folks here have lots of knowledge in the dark arts of ULF photography. Wow - you're not starting small are you!! It will be fun to see a 20x16 camera with a 5x4 reducing back :D. You must post pics here as your build progresse...

Re: Budget lf tripod?

Another vote from me for the Feisol tripods (I'm very pleased with my CT-3371 for a 10x8 field camera though go for smaller & cheaper for lighter 5x4). Don't worry about tripods not being specifically recommended for LF. LF is such a small market for them that it probably isn't worth the ink on thei...

Re: Hello from London

Welcome Valerio, It's great that instant film is still available in 5x4 isn't it. Instant, one-of-a-kind LF photos have a wonderful "look" to them in their own right beyond just being used for test shots. I wish they still made it in 10x8, though I don't think my wallet could stand it :? Their are q...

Hi Peter. Yes please. Can you post photos of the lens and give more specifics about this particular example? Many thanks, John

Re: First Wet-plates

Yes, sorry Susie. I love the one-of-a-kind nature of these photographs and took your thread off on a bit of a tangent by going into excited-questions mode :D
I will restart the tread in the "Wet Plate & Alternative Processes" section that Fourtoes mentions....

Re: First Wet-plates

Cheers. This is most interesting! So does one end up with a daguerreotype-like reflectivity to the final "product"? I was originally looking at going the ambrotype route and glass plates. This would be much more convenient and - I don't know - but maybe 0.5mm thick trophy aluminium has an outside ch...

Re: First Wet-plates

Fabulous images Susie. Thanks for posting. I'm very envious. Must work out getting my hands on a plate holder for my 8x10.... Just trying to get my head around the process: Did you coat shiny aluminium, and end up with an in-camera positive the same way that ambrotypes look positive with a reflectiv...

Hi John. Judging by Thingy's signature, and active forum participation. My guess is that he/she(?!) could give you lots of useful pointers on this.

Re: Hi from NW London

I'm hoping to enter the Taylor-Wessing this year, it's worth a shot- think of all the LF equipment I could buy with that prize! :) I appreciate what you say about LF documentary, my style at the moment is more like Davidson's subway series (not quite as good though :) ) which might be harder to do ...

Re: Hi from NW London

Welcome Chaim. I'm an LF newbie myself, so won't be able to answer any processing questions (yet :) ). Still gathering together the "kit" as well. Dark cloth arrived today :-). Totally agree re: square format and the C330 is a lovely camera. How are you enjoying Middlesex. It has a great reputation ...
