Have only used Velvia 100 so far, bought 3 boxes from RW last year (3 for 2 offer) and have just used the last few sheets. On the whole I have been very impressed with the V100 but I'm no expert. Hope to use the V50 on the L&L LF workshop this March so will let you know.

Tim, thanks for that bit of advice, I notice they make short & XL spikes... any preference? Do you use a strap or carry bag to lug it about?

I have finally pushed the boat out and bought the Gitzo GT3541XLS and treated myself to a new Manfrotto 410 head, will keep the old one on my old tripod which is ideal for MF. After much browsing I found that Bob Rigby was the cheapest at £510 for the Gitzo.

Ta for your posting thingy, as mentioned in my earlier post the hand punch can only cope with paper up to about 120gsm, you need far more pressure with 300gsm photorag paper.

It probably is more convenient to do a virtual emboss in photoshop but not as good as the real thing.

Hi Tim

I have searched google but they all come as a complete package, press & die together, I just need the die. Also the plier type stamp can only emboss up to about 120gsm, my prints are about 280gsm. Cheers Paul

Embossing stamp

I've just recently picked up (cheap!) an old company seal stamp with a view to creating my own stamp for my limited edition prints. Does any else here use one and know of anywhere that I can have a new die made?

Hi Issa I received your PM but thought I couldn't really help as I too am a relative beginner and it would have been a bit like the blind leading the blind. My knowledge so far has been gained by just getting out there with my camera and some cheap B&W film, this I found has helped me enormously, yo...

Another recommendation is Steve Simmons' book (can't remember the title offhand and I'm not at home to check) which is cheaper than Stroebel's book and easier to understand (though not as comprehensive). I can also thoroughly recommend Jack Dykinga's book, which also has the benefit of some absolut...

Another thing which would be useful, since people are talking about hiking, is for these bags to have a separate pouch where one can put wet waterproofs, leaking waterbottles, oozing sandwiches etc. I look forward to your advice. Charles Charles, my Lowepro came with a handy daysack which attaches ...

Paul do you find this a heavy setup, considering the empty pack weights in at 8lb plus? Nat, with all that equipment any bag is going to be heavy but the design of the Lowepro makes it easy to carry all that weight. I particularly like the way you can adjust the harness so it is carried high up on ...

I second the use of a polariser. I also sometimes use my Lee coral grad inverted which gives a little ooomph to the leaves on the ground.

I use a Lowepro Photo Trekker AWII and normally carry my 5x4 & 3 lenses, XPan & 2 lenses, a digital compact, Quickload holder & film, my Lee filters, darkcloth, exposure meter and all the other odds and sods. Have carried all this up and down dale for many miles without any trouble. Has been out in ...
