Yes, I'd be interested in joining you in a day out and learning from you more experienced people.

Re: Sending exposed films to lab

Hi Keith, When I started LF last year Peak Imaging in Sheffield, sent me some empty film boxes to get me started - free as Dave said. When I send in the exposed sheets for processing I also ask them to return the empty boxes for using again. I would've thought any good lab would do this for you. Goo...

Thanks for the quick reply, Marc. I'm after a centred board though.

Cheers,

Re: FS: Linhof wista fit lens panels.

Hi Marc, please could you tell me if the holes in these lens boards are centred or offset.

Many thanks,

Maurice Broomfield

I'm ashamed to admit that I'd not come across the work of Maurice Broomfield until I read his obit recently (died 4th September this year). His industrial work in the 1950s and '60s was amazing, especially the lighting. I'm assuming from the quality of the images I've seen that he shot in large form...

Re: Ffordes Photographic secondhand dealer website terrible

I can only agree with the other replies here. My experience of Ffordes has always been excellent. I can't comment on the updating of the website problem but their service has been exemplary and they always reply to queries and sort out problems speedily.

Re: Buying colour film

I've found 7dayshop to be excellent and very well priced but delivery is a little slower depending on stocks. Calumet are also excellent and super-fast on delivery. Another one to try is http://www.discountfilmsdirect.co.uk Their postage rates are very reasonable.

Re: LF starter kit ideas please...

Peter, yes I forgot to mention Collectable Cameras. I've dealt with Simon Chesterman and he's a very nice chap to deal with and will look out for things for you. At the time I was looking he didn't have any LF stuff but, as you say, he seems to have more in now. If anyone's near York sometime Simon ...

Re: LF starter kit ideas please...

Haydn, I was in a similar situation to you at the end of last year with a budget of £650 - £700 total. I found this and the U.S forum very helpful in drawing up a shortlist of equipment. In the end I acquired a mint Wista DXII on eBay for a bit over £400 and I can vouch for the quality of this camer...

Re: Pre-viewing with digital or with instant film?

Brijphoto, I would definitely advocate learning to use a separate meter plus your own judgement about the desired look of the photo to gauge exposure. I've never found that using a DSLR works very well for me (based on experiences with medium format film.) Remember also that you may need to compensa...

Re: Field Outdoor Tripod Tent Mobile Darkroom - anyone got one?

I bought a Calumet Changing Room after recommendations on this forum. It's very good and easy to use at home but I would tend to agree with Bogdan_B that it wouldn't be very practical outdoors in the field, although it would be fine to use in a car. The tripod tent wasn't 'on my radar' when I was lo...

Re: One of the perrenial questions of LF: which backpack?

Craig and Dave, thanks very much for the great photos - really helpful.
I've clearly a lot to learn about packing a bag!

Thanks again and best wishes,

Gavin

PS I'd been hoping to squeeze my DSLR in as well

Re: One of the perrenial questions of LF: which backpack?

Subsequent to my last post, which was borne of frustration and tiredness, my spacial awareness chip has kicked in again and I've figured out how to arrange the gear in the bag quite easily! I'd still be interested, though, to see how others manage to pack their LF kits into what is a very compact ba...

Re: One of the perrenial questions of LF: which backpack?

Based on recommendations in this thread, I've just bought a Lowepro Mini Trekker AW. I'd be interested to know how you Mini Trekker users get your kit in this bag as I'm having trouble arranging the dividers to suit my Wista DX, lens and DDSs etc. Any chance of somebody posting a photo of how they a...
