Re: general use

Depending on your budget, one of the best medium format general use cameras of recent years was the Mamiya 6 (6x6) and 7 (6x7). They tend to be expensive though, even second hand. Not sure where you're based but Collectable Cameras in East Yorks has a good range of Zeiss folders, Mamiya 645, Yashica...

Thanks for that, DJ. I don't think I need to re-submit as you've cleared up what I was unsure about.

Thanks again,

Resealable bags for film holders

Being unable to get any suitably-sized bags locally, I've just bought some 9" x 6" re-sealable polythene bags from eBay and they are a perfect size for 5x4 DDS film holders. The smallest quantity I could get was 100 so I've rather a few left over! If anyone wants some let me know and I'll send them ...

For Admins: PMs

Sorry to post this on here but I'm a bit uncertain about how the Personal Messages feature works. I sent one to 'Admin' a couple of days ago and haven't had a reply so I'm not sure if it got there. When I clicked 'submit' on my message it went into my Outbox and has stayed there. Does that mean it h...

Re: Film Changing tent recommendations and Paramo.

Yes, thanks for the 'Changing Room' recommendation. I've just ordered one and it's going to save me a lot of bother trying to make rooms at home (and away) light-tight!

Film holder management

Another newbie question :$ . I was just wondering what people find the best way of identifying the 'status' of their film holders as I think this could get confusing when away on a trip. I suppose it's easy to identify loaded and un-exposed holders by having the white side of the dark slide showing....

Re: Cityscapes : you can't photograph here without authorisation

Yes, Thingy, I remember when I did some aerial photography over the Moors many years ago the pilot said that we must avoid flying over Fylingdales. As he put it, "If we do, it'll ruin your marriage prospects"!

Re: Recommended 4x5 Film holders?

I've just tried the sniff test on my Toyo holders and there's no abominable stench from them. Mine are all plastic, including the dark slide. Five out of the six have the name "Toyo Cut Film Holder 4x5 inch Made in Japan" printed in blue but one has the legend "Toyo Cut Film Holder 4x5 Sakai Special...

Bl***y hell, Dave, I've been intending to go up that way to start my LF activities! I'm just waiting to see what's going to happen when I venture out into the streets of York

Re: Cityscapes : you can't photograph here without authorisation

You wouldn't think that somebody with their head stuck under a dark cloth peering at the screen of a LF camera would be deemed to be that suspicious. But you can't be sure: cut to a cave in darkest Pakganistan. Osama sits addressing a crack team of his operatives, "Go forth immediately to the UK and...

I got a good quote from Glover & Howe in Colchester: 01206 814500 http://www.gloverhowe.com and I think they do a range of policies.

Re: Lensboards compatibility

Just to add to David's comments about mounting the lens and the little screw, the screw hole was pre-drilled on my Wista board and was in a position so as to orientate the lens with the iris and shutter controls at the top. However, I didn't bother with the screw and have mounted my lens with those ...
