Re: Lubricating focus on a Wista Field

Paul,

Thanks for your reply here and on LF. Yes, maybe just a bit of silicon based furniture polish will do it. I don't think it needs much and I suspect the stiffness is actually in the wooden runners rather than the brass gears which is why I wondered about using beeswax polish.

Lubricating focus on a Wista Field

My Wista cherry wood field camera (DXII possibly) has arrived and I must say it looks ten times better in the flesh than in the pictures! A real beauty. I've got a lens on order (135mm Symmar S and decided to go with Ffordes and have the benefit of a warranty) and just need to get some DDS holders. ...

Good thought, Dave, thanks. I use Peak anyway for my medium format processing.

Cheers,

Re: Supplying exposed sheets to the lab

Craig,

This was going to be my very next newbie question so you've saved me asking it! Cheers.

I'm going to ask a photographer colleague who used to shoot 5x4 if he's got any old boxes I could have but if not I might be asking the kind folks here if they can spare one or two!

Re: Schneider lens question from a very Newbie!

This is of course before the miserable bu**ers at the Post Office and HM Customs take their percentage I know what you mean, numnutz, as I've experienced this with purchases of other things from the 'States. I expected to pay a little bit of duty/tax which amounted to a couple of quid and then the ...

Re: Schneider lens question from a very Newbie!

Thanks Ian. I must admit I'd hoped to get a lens for under £200 but haven't seen much decent in that price range. The Symmar I've seen is described as 'good condition' but I could try asking the seller a bit more about it. As a comparison price wise, Ffordes have one described as Exc++ at £250. Yes,...

Schneider lens question from a very Newbie!

Happy New Year to you all. A new year and a new venture for me as I have now bought my first 5x4 camera - a Wista DXII (I think). Going against my original thinking, I did buy it from eBay and haven't taken delivery yet so I'm in some trepidation about it arriving damaged or turning out not as good ...

Well, in case anyone's interested, they trade as uk.topstock on eBay. I contacted them today through eBay and received a very quick response. They don't have a retail premises anymore but equipment can be inspected by prior appointment only.

Re: 4x5 Camera suggestions for LF newbie

Craig, I e-mailed Hugo at Chamonix last Friday to enquire about availability and pricing. Here's his reply:- Hi Gavin, We have 45n-1 cameras in teak and maple wood with gray and black metal finish at our factory ready to ship. Contacting Foto-Arte

Hi all, I've been trying to contact Foto-Arte via their website e-mail and 'phone. Neither of these work but I seem to recall that they're trading on eBay. Does anyone have any experience of dealing with them via eBay? I'm just wondering if they're reliable as a dealer and also if they still have a ...

Re: Taking Your Camera Out Can be Expsnsive

For what it's worth, Joanna, I would say leave it alone if it's working. Time is a great healer - not of the physical damage of course, but of the emotional damage! My first medium format camera was an old Bronica S2A which I bought secondhand. The first day I took it out I put it on a tripod and wh...
